This is a great opportunity to be part of the world’s largest bulk export port authority, encompassing the operating ports of Ashburton, Dampier, Port Hedland and Varanus Island, and five future port sites. The Deputy Harbour Master (DHM) is part of the Pilbara Ports marine operations team, responsible for the overall safety and efficiency of port operations across Dampier, Varanus Island, Cape Preston West and the Port of Ashburton.
The key responsibility of the DHM is to ensure the Port’s daily marine activities occur safely and efficiently, in line with established procedures, legislation and standards. The role also supports the Harbour Master in coordinating marine operations, managing service providers, maintaining operational procedures, and contributing to incident management and continuous improvement initiatives. You will build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and may act in the Harbour Master role when required. Additionally, the DHM will be required to gain an in-depth understanding of VTSC operations.
About You

Your proven success in a similar role within a Port or related Maritime environment, along with internationally recognised senior marine certificates of competency, will support your success.
You are a collaborative and inclusive leader with strong communication skills, able to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes. With experience across marine operations, you bring a sound understanding of relevant legislation, emergency response, and the management of service providers, as well as knowledge of pilotage, towage, VTS and port security operations.
