A Disability Support Worker provides person-centred care and support to individuals living with physical, intellectual, psychosocial, or sensory disabilities. The role focuses on promoting independence, dignity, inclusion, and quality of life while assisting clients with daily living activities and community participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care assistance, including showering, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support clients with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, household duties, and medication reminders.
- Assist clients in accessing community activities, appointments, education, and employment opportunities.
- Encourage independence, social engagement, and skill development.
- Follow individual care plans and behavioural support strategies.
- Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients at all times.
- Build positive relationships with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Support clients with mobility and transportation where required.
- Adhere to workplace policies, confidentiality requirements, and relevant disability support standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, or related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in disability support or community care is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of person-centred care principles.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- National Police Check.
- Working With Children Check (if applicable).
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle (preferred).
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (if applicable).
Working Conditions
- Flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays may be required.
