About the Role
We are seeking a Primary Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team and support the delivery of substation, utility, renewable energy, and industrial power projects.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of primary electrical systems, preparing technical documentation and coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed primary electrical designs
- Develop substation layouts, equipment arrangements, and single-line diagrams
- Perform electrical calculations and prepare technical reports
- Conduct load flow, protection coordination, and power system studies
- Prepare and review design drawings and technical documentation
- Coordinate with secondary, civil, structural, and protection design teams
- Support design reviews and client technical meetings
- Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards, client specifications, and industry best practices
Skills & Experience required:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in power system or primary electrical design
- Experience in substations, utility, industrial, or renewable energy projects
- Strong understanding of: High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems, Substation primary plant equipment. Electrical protection principles, Power system analysis
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Experience with one or more of the following: ETAP, PowerFactory, NEPLAN, DIALux, MATLAB / Simulink,
- Strong technical report writing skills
Desirable
- Experience with utility connection projects
- Knowledge of Australian Standards including AS3000 and utility requirements
- Experience with testing and commissioning activities
- Engineer Australia membership or working towards professional registration

Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
