The Flower Express | Illawarra & Sydney Flower Market
Mondays & Wednesdays | Early starts
This job isn’t for everyone.
The alarm goes off before 2am.
You’ll be on your feet at Sydney Flower Market while most people are still asleep. You’ll be buying, lifting, loading, sorting and delivering flowers - and doing it all with pace, care and good energy.
It’s early. It’s physical. Most mornings are busy.
But for the right person, it’s also a really rewarding role with plenty of room to grow.
We’re looking for someone reliable, switched-on and keen to learn. You don’t need to know everything about flowers from day one - we can teach you the buying, the growers, the products and the routes.
More than anything, we’re looking for a great attitude.
Someone who enjoys being part of a team, takes pride in doing things well, and is comfortable taking on more responsibility as they build confidence.
Over time, this role can become much more than a casual driving job. We’d love to develop the right person into someone who can buy independently, manage their own routes, build strong customer relationships and eventually help us grow new business.
What you’ll be doing
· Starting early and travelling to Sydney Flower Market to source and purchase flowers.
· Learning what makes a great flower buy - quality, freshness, value and what our customers actually want.
· Working with growers, wholesalers and suppliers to source the best product available.
· Loading, sorting and handling flowers carefully and efficiently.
· Driving delivery routes throughout the Illawarra and surrounding regions.
· Delivering to florists and other customers with friendly, professional service.
· Building genuine relationships with the customers on your route.
· Helping us spot ways to improve what we do and grow the business.
· As you develop, taking increasing ownership of buying, routes, customers and new business.
Who we’re looking for
You might already have experience in flowers, floristry, wholesale, markets, hospitality, logistics or sales.
Or you might simply be someone who likes being busy, enjoys practical work and learns quickly.
Either way, you’ll need to be:
· Comfortable with very early starts - mostly around 3am at markets.
· Physically capable and happy doing hands-on work, including regular lifting and loading. Think of it as a decent workout built into the shift.
· Reliable and punctual - early market runs depend on everyone being where they need to be.
· Energetic and comfortable working at a good pace.
· Friendly and confident with suppliers and customers.
· Observant, organised and able to solve problems as they come up.
· Comfortable working independently once trained.
· Keen to learn and interested in taking on more responsibility over time.
· A confident and competent driver who is comfortable with regular driving, busy roads and handling a delivery vehicle safely.
· A holder of a full Australian driver licence with a good driving record. No P platers for this role, sorry.
Flower or floristry knowledge is a big advantage, but attitude, reliability and willingness to learn matter more.
The opportunity
This is initially a casual position working Mondays and Wednesdays, with the potential for additional work as the business grows.
We’re a small, modern team and we like to keep things friendly, straightforward and supportive.
You’ll get proper training, plenty of variety, and the chance to build real responsibility over time.
We’re looking for someone we can invest in - someone who could eventually take ownership of their own routes and customers and become a key part of the next stage of The Flower Express.
If you like early starts, practical work, good people and the idea of growing into a bigger role over time, we’d love to hear from you.
