Primary objective
Maintain a high level of enhanced operations, emergency and disaster planning and preparedness and specialist surge capacity
personnel and equipment.
Context statement
This position is a day work position within Special Operations Command and reports to the Senior Station Officer Enhanced
Operations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Command in researching and promoting new and emerging innovations, technology and capabilities within the
Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS), which enhance safety and response capabilities.
2. Ensure specialised equipment and assets, including detection equipment, is maintained and managed to ensure a high state of
operational readiness.
3. Assist the SO BA & HAZMAT/Technical Officer on an as needed and when required basis.
4. Contribute and assist the SSO with NTFRS emergency and disaster planning, preparedness and response across the Northern
Territory.
5. Contribute towards specialist training programs for operational staff or key stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally
in conjunction with al NTFRS Commands.
6. Maintain a register of contemporary special risks and hazard locations and planning in consultation with Territory Operations.
7. Fulfil varying roles within an Incident Management Team and act in positions of higher rank as required.
8. Represent the NTFRS at relevant industry conferences, including AFAC, to harness innovation and development opportunities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Be Qualified to the rank of Station Officer and a proven background in emergency management.
2. Effective previous performance within a nationally recognised fire and rescue service at the Station Officer level or equivalent
and an ability to add value to the strategic direction of the NTFRS.
3. Demonstrated leadership, team work, communication and collaborative skills to effectively manage staff and liaise with all
stakeholders through understanding of organisational dynamics and practical application of Human resource principles.
4. A sound working knowledge of the legislation relevant to the NTFRS and the ability to interpret and apply the Northern
Territory Government procurement framework, guidelines and procedures and associated agency processes.
5. A proven ability to carry out all duties with a high level of integrity and ethical standards in accordance with public service
values.
6. A current divers licence as approved by the NT Government.
Desirable
1. Tertiary education in management and/or emergency response/Cert IV in Training and Assessment
2. Have undertaken positions in both Territory Operations including regional station and in Strategy and Capability with
demonstrated achievements.
3. A sound understanding of the equipment and assets utilised by NTFRS.
