## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Electroplater to join our team and take responsibility for coating metal articles and components with non-ferrous metals through controlled electroplating and electroforming processes. The successful candidate will oversee plating solutions, regulate electrical systems, and ensure all finished products meet strict quality and safety standards. This role suits a trade-qualified professional with hands-on experience in surface finishing, metal preparation, and chemical solution management. A commitment to precision, workplace safety, and continuous improvement is essential.
## Key Responsibilities
- Select and assess appropriate metal stock to match job specifications, considering material properties and coating requirements
- Prepare and maintain electrolytic, silver, and plating solutions, ensuring correct chemical composition and concentration for each application
- Operate and monitor electroplating equipment, setting and adjusting controls to regulate electrical current and achieve consistent, high-quality metal deposition
- Prepare metal surfaces prior to plating through cleaning, degreasing, pickling, and masking to ensure optimal adhesion and finish quality
- Heat metal using forges and furnaces, then shape and form components using hand tools, machine presses, hammers, punches, and cutting equipment
- Temper and harden finished articles through controlled quenching in oil or water baths, or by gradual air cooling, to achieve required material properties
- Inspect plated components against quality specifications, identifying defects such as pitting, blistering, or uneven coating thickness and taking corrective action
- Monitor bath chemistry and solution levels regularly, replenishing and adjusting chemical additives in accordance with process requirements and safety protocols
- Maintain accurate production and process records, including solution logs, current readings, and quality inspection outcomes
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on plating tanks, rectifiers, filtration systems, and ancillary equipment to minimise downtime
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety procedures, including the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals in compliance with Australian regulations
- Collaborate with production supervisors and quality teams to meet output targets, resolve technical issues, and support continuous process improvement
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in electroplating, surface finishing, or a related metal trades discipline
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in an electroplating or industrial metal finishing environment
- Sound knowledge of electroplating processes including rack plating, barrel plating, and electroforming techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, job specifications, and work orders
- Practical understanding of chemical handling procedures and the safe use of acids, alkalis, and plating solutions
- Familiarity with quality control standards and the ability to conduct visual and dimensional inspections of plated components
- Competency in operating and maintaining plating equipment, rectifiers, and associated machinery
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to process control and record-keeping
- Current or ability to obtain a forklift licence and other relevant operational certifications
- Understanding of relevant Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
## Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or a related qualification recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
- Experience with specialist plating processes such as hard chrome, nickel, gold, or zinc-nickel applications
- Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements relating to effluent treatment and chemical waste disposal
- Experience working within an ISO 9001-accredited or similar quality management system
- Prior exposure to aerospace, automotive, or defence sector plating standards and specifications
- First Aid certification and current White Card (General Construction Induction)
