Veitch Lister Consulting (VLC) is seeking a Sydney based senior leader to represent and grow our presence in the NSW market. This role combines people leadership, client engagement and strategic market positioning, with a strong focus on supporting team performance and helping shape growth opportunities aligned with our national strategy.
Reporting to the Managing Director and as member of the Management Committee, the State Director (NSW) leads VLC’s NSW team and is accountable for project delivery, local market engagement and contributing to broader business growth.
This role forms part of a planned evolution of VLC’s NSW leadership structure, with the current NSW State Director transitioning into a different role within the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Capability Development
In this role, the State Director will lead a team of 10, building capability across technical and consulting disciplines while fostering a high-performing, engaged and well-supported team environment. The role also oversees resourcing, utilisation and capability planning, working closely with People & Culture on performance, development and retention.
- Project Delivery & Performance
The State Director is accountable for the successful delivery of projects within the NSW team, with a focus on quality, timeliness and client satisfaction. This includes providing oversight and support to Project Managers, maintaining visibility of delivery risks and resourcing constraints, improving consistency in delivery practices and, where relevant, leading projects directly in an area of technical expertise.
- Market Engagement & Positioning
As one of VLC’s senior representatives in NSW, the role maintains strong relationships with clients, partners and industry stakeholders while keeping close to market conditions, policy direction and client priorities. The State Director also works with national leaders to identify, shape and support opportunities, contributing local insight, client knowledge and team mobilisation to proposals and pursuits.
About You

Experience in transport planning, transport modelling, economics or policy, and an established network in the NSW market, will be highly regarded.
A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, transport planning, economics, public policy or related discipline is required. Postgraduate qualifications and professional accreditation or membership relevant to the transport or consulting industry will be well regarded.
Why Join VLC?
