## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Textile, Clothing and Footwear Mechanic to join our team in a hands-on technical role focused on the setup, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery used across textile, clothing, and footwear production. The successful candidate will bring strong mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving ability, and a thorough understanding of machine operation within a manufacturing environment. This role suits a qualified tradesperson who takes pride in precision workmanship and keeping production running at peak efficiency.
## Key Responsibilities
- Configure and calibrate guides, stops, feeds, and operational controls on textile, clothing, and footwear machinery to meet production specifications
- Diagnose mechanical faults across a range of industrial sewing, knitting, weaving, and footwear manufacturing machines, implementing timely and effective solutions
- Carry out scheduled and reactive maintenance to minimise unplanned downtime and sustain consistent machine performance
- Overhaul and rebuild machines and mechanical components, replacing worn or damaged parts as required
- Erect and commission new machinery and equipment on-site, ensuring correct installation and safe operation prior to handover
- Adjust tension, timing, and stitch mechanisms on industrial and domestic sewing machines to ensure quality output
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records in line with workplace and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with production supervisors and operators to identify recurring issues and implement preventative measures
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and site-specific protocols
- Support the training of operators in the correct use and basic care of machinery where required
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in textile machinery, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience servicing and repairing industrial textile, sewing, or footwear manufacturing machinery
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems as they apply to production machinery
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with a methodical, hands-on approach to problem resolution
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance tasks within production schedules
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations and safe work practices in a manufacturing environment
- Good communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with production teams and management
## Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or higher in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or a related field recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
- Experience with computerised or programmable logic controller (PLC) operated textile machinery
- Forklift licence or experience operating elevated work platforms (EWP) for on-site equipment installation
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies
- Prior experience in a high-volume garment, textile, or footwear manufacturing facility
