The Opportunity
Unwanted FC's Brisbane team is expanding.
We’re looking for skilled Upcycling Technicians who can work from home using their own industrial sewing machines, while also being open to collaborating in-person from our Brisbane studio for meetings and handovers.
This is a flexible, production-focused role with the opportunity to grow and evolve over time.
About Unwanted FC
Unwanted FC upcycles post-consumer sportswear into new, functional products - including tote bags, boot bags, hats and more.
Since 2018, we’ve worked with clubs, players and fans to extend the life of garments that would otherwise go to waste. Every product is one-of-one, made with purpose.
As we grow, we’re building a network of skilled makers who can help scale production without compromising quality.
What You’ll Do
- Produce upcycled products from home to Unwanted FC standards
- Work with mainly sportswear (jerseys) combined with inner lining/interfacing
- Follow patterns, briefs, and product guidelines provided by our team
- Maintain consistent quality and turnaround times
- Communicate regularly on progress and capacity
- Collaborate in-person at our Brisbane studio for handovers
What We’re Looking For
- Strong sewing skills (confident with your own machine setup and working with ours if required)
- Experience with garment construction, alterations, or textile work
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workflow
- High attention to detail and pride in finished products
Requirements
- Access to your own sewing machine and basic equipment
- Ability to work from home reliably
- Availability for occasional in-person sessions in Brisbane
Nice to Have
- Experience with upcycling or working with pre-worn garments
- Experience producing bags or accessories
- Interest in sustainability and circular fashion
- Interest in sports (we mainly work with Soccer, AFL, Rugby or Cricket apparel)
Additional Info
- Casual / freelance arrangement (flexible workload based on demand)
- Opportunity to grow into a more consistent, centralised production team and play a key role in the growth of an exciting start-up. Gain exposure and opportunities to work with our global partners - from brands & clubs to professional athletes.
If you enjoy hands-on work, value sustainability, and want to be part of a growing circular fashion brand, we’d love to hear from you.
