About the Role
As a member of the icare Insurance for NSW claim team you will oversee a portfolio of complex liability claims across a number of product lines including public liability, medical negligence, Directors & Officers (D&O) and Cyber. We are looking for vibrant candidates with a strong technical background in liability and/or professional indemnity claims.
You will draw on your meaningful experience to drive strategy and balance the needs of the Treasury Managed Fund and the NSW Government Agencies. You will proactively manage claims and operate in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure the sustainability of the fund. icare prioritises its obligation to operate fairly, transparently and as a Model Litigant.
You will maintain clear oversight of the key performance drivers and focus on improving claims outcomes to deliver a strongly customer centric experience. You will play a key role in supporting icare’s transformation of its General Lines claims framework and its ongoing focus to uplift claims performance.
This role is open to applicants located across Sydney CBD, Parramatta and Wollongong offices, While the role can be based at any of these sites the preferred location is our Kent Street CBD office to support regular in person team connection and collaboration.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same. As Technical Claims Manager, Liability, you will:
Strategy and Planning
- Support the development and delivery of claims strategies that achieve business objectives and improve customer outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen claims performance, manage risk and deliver sustainable financial outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance claims processes and capability.
Claims Leadership
- Manage a portfolio of complex liability claims, ensuring timely, fair and consistent outcomes.
- Partner with legal service providers and internal stakeholders to identify risks and implement effective claims resolution strategies.
- Monitor claims performance, reserving and compliance to support sound decision making and effective governance.
Stakeholder and Customer Focus
- Build trusted relationships with government agencies, legal partners and internal teams to deliver positive claims experiences.
- Provide technical guidance and collaborate across the business to support high quality claims management.
Technical Expertise
- Lead the management of high value and strategically significant liability claims.
- Ensure claims are managed in line with legislative requirements, organisational policies and Model Litigant obligations.
- Support quality assurance, peer reviews and continuous improvement to strengthen technical excellence across the team.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience managing complex liability claims within a litigated environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of liability, professional indemnity, medical negligence, Cyber and or D&O claims.
- Experience managing high value, complex claims and delivering sound commercial and customer outcomes.
- Well-developed negotiation, stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions in complex situations.
- Experience building collaborative relationships across legal partners, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, quality claims management and customer outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working within insurance or government schemes will be highly regarded.
