Introduction:
ACEREZ is a consortium, comprised of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy which has been appointed Preferred Network Operator by EnergyCo to design, deliver, operate and maintain the transmission line network for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).
The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state’s newly legislated Net Zero targets.

THE OPPORTUNITY
As an Operational Technology Engineer your objective is to work with users to operationalise the configuration of the software and systems used for operating the CWO REZ for effective control of a power system hosting 100% IBR generation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operational Technology Engineer will:
- Deliver business-as-usual maintenance and support for SCADA/EMS and other operational technology systems.
- Work with external service providers to ensure SLAs are met and reporting requirements are maintained.
- Perform system integration, validation, and performance testing to ensure reliable system functionality.
- Provide technical support for SCADA platforms, including troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis
- Conduct patching, upgrades, and routine update activities in accordance with operational requirements.
- Maintain and update network models, including testing and commissioning support for newly installed equipment.
- Follow established change control processes to ensure quality assurance and compliance.
- Respond to end-user issues and manage resolution through the ticketing system.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation such as system designs, specifications, procedures, manuals, and user guides.
- Ensure systems comply with relevant industry standards, cybersecurity requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Collaborate with engineers, field teams, and project stakeholders to support the successful delivery of OT initiatives.
- Conduct regular system audits, health checks, and software upgrades to maintain operational reliability.
- Provide training to end-users and junior engineers on SCADA system functionality and best practices.
- Support the enhancement, sustainability, and lifecycle management of operational systems.
- Ensure long-term system reliability and seamless integration with interconnected OT and IT systems.
- Enhance data visibility and support reliable performance monitoring across the energy network.
- Work closely with business users to identify and implement opportunities for improvement using systems engineering principles.
Skills and Experiences:
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Technical Proficiency – Strong understanding of control systems, SCADA, and industrial automation technologies specific to electrical transmission utilities & renewable energy
- Troubleshooting – ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to equipment and software in real-time
- Data Analysis – skills in analysing performance data to optimise operations and identify areas for improvement
- Networking Knowledge – familiarity with networking protocols and cybersecurity measures to ensure secure and efficient communication between devices
- Project Management – experience managing projects related to system upgrades, installations and upgrades
- Regulatory Knowledge – understanding of industry regulations and standards related to Australian electrical utilities
- Safety Awareness – knowledge of safety practices and compliance requirements in the Australian electrical utilities
- Communications Skills – Strong verbal and written communications skills for effective collaboration with engineering teams and stakeholders
- Adaptability – ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to the evolving landscape of electrical utilities and changes to control systems
- Interpersonal Skills – ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and provide support to end-users
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Computer Science, Technology, or a relevant discipline
- 3 - 7 years' work experience in a systems engineering or systems integration role
- Knowledge and understanding of an electricity transmission & distribution utility business functions and workflow processes
- Knowledge and understanding of networking and security, operating systems, virtual environments, and systems integration
- Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, especially systems integration, verification & validation, operations, and support
- Ability to initiate development and modifications to operational processes and continuous improvement in team-based environments
- Basic to programming knowledge of code and ability to write queries and scripts
- Specific OSI, GE or Siemens SCADA EMS application software experience used in a transmission utility
