The Royal Hospital for Women has been one of Australia’s foremost specialist hospitals for women and babies since its early beginnings as New South Wales first "lying-in" hospital for women in 1820. As a principal teaching hospital of the University of NSW in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology the Royal has a history of innovation in women’s health care services, teaching and research.
The main areas of specialisation include breast care, gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, maternity, maternal-fetal medicine, menopause, newborn intensive care and reproductive medicine.
Each year the Hospital delivers up to 3,000 babies; cares for more than 600 premature babies; performs more than 3000 surgical procedures and has over 2000 visits through our Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS).
The Maternity division offers a full range of obstetric services, all of which are Consultant led and include:
- Dedicated multiple pregnancy clinic
- Vaginal Breech service
- Medical disorders in pregnancy clinic
- Perinatal infection clinic
- Perinatal loss service
- Obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASIS) service
- Genetics clinics
The successful candidate would have the opportunity to personalise their timetable to attend sessions that meets their training needs. The focus in these sessions would be to maximise opportunities while ensuring service delivery.
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality obstetric and gynaecological care to patients in a complex clinical environment whilst developing higher professional maturity and professionalism during the RANZCOG Advanced Training Program, with the goal of obtaining FRANZCOG. Provisional Fellows will, under an appropriate level of supervision by senior staff as approved by the RANZCOG, evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to female patients of all ages presenting in any condition or stage of pregnancy or the puerperium; and female patients presenting with illnesses, injuries and disorders of the gynaecological or genitourinary system.
The Provisional Fellow Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) position is aimed at trainees wishing to develop their generalist obstetrics and gynaecology skills as an advanced trainee at a quaternary referral hospital.
The position will have both clinical and administrative responsibilities, which aims to prepare the candidate for a future role as a consultant medical officer within the public hospital sector. The clinical duties will be determined based on the preferences of the successful applicant and service needs and will include obstetrics and gynaecology duties in the outpatient, inpatient and operating theatre settings.
The position has responsibility for co-ordinating the rostering and protected teaching of the O & G Junior Medical Officers at the Royal Hospital for Women. Support is also provided to the role by the Medical Clinical Co-Directors and the RANZCOG ITP coordinator to ensure smooth operation of the O & G services. A Provisional Fellows acts as an advocate and support for the O & G JMOs and is assisted by the subspecialty O & G Advance Trainees in the provision of welfare support.
