THE POSITION:
Are you passionate about protecting the environment and making a positive impact in the community? Fairfield City Council is looking for a motivated and professional Waste Enforcement Officer to join our specialist regulatory team.
In this role, you will help create a cleaner and greener city by investigating illegal dumping, littering and environmental offences, while educating the community and enforcing environmental legislation. Working within a dedicated enforcement team, you will undertake investigations, gather evidence, issue statutory notices and represent Council in legal proceedings where required.
ABOUT YOU:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Certificate IV in Government Investigation (or equivalent) and/or relevant law enforcement experience.
- Experience undertaking investigations and applying investigative procedures.
- Knowledge of environmental and local government legislation, particularly enforcement powers.
- Experience preparing legal documentation, briefs of evidence and presenting evidence in court.
- Strong report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution and customer service skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
The following qualifications and experience are considered advantageous for this role:
- Local Government experience.
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Self-Enforcement and Infringement Notice Scheme (SEINS) trained.
- First Aid/Senior Certificate.
- Community development or engagement skills to change behaviour.
- Experience in dispute negotiation and conflict resolution.
SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Permanent full-time position, working 38 hours per week
- This position is a Grade 4, with a salary range starting from $77,652 p.a. up to $83,617 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with further performance-based progression available up to $90,957 p.a., plus superannuation
- A dual cabin utility leaseback vehicle is available
- A mobile telephone is provided
- Uniform is provided
