BE THE CATALYST THAT DRIVES REAL CHANGE FOR OUR PLANET.”
Samsara Eco has one clear mission: to repair our planet through infinite plastic recycling. Yes, it’s a mighty mission but it’s something every single one of us here at Samsara Eco is determined to achieve. And it’s what motivates us to dedicate our time and energy to every single day.
Our technology is like our team. One of a kind. And we know that, so while we are creating technology to repair our planet, we’re also building a great place to grow careers. A place where everyone can do the best work of their life, making meaningful impact on our planet and ourselves.
WHO WE ARE...
We’re a biotech innovator with a mission that actually matters. We’re taking the 10 billion tonnes of plastics and textiles wasting away in landfill and recycling it – infinitely – to create a truly circular loop for packaging, clothing, airbags, and everything in between.
It means the brands people love can keep making the products they rely on, without the environmental cost. By using what we already have, we can break the world’s dependence on fossil fuels and leave a liveable planet for the generations coming after us.
This isn’t just a job. This is the work that matters most right now.
This role is based in Jerrabomberra, on the border of NSW/ACT approx. 30 mins from Canberra CBD
- All candidates must have a valid visa for Australia - Sponsorship is unavailable for this role.
Role Purpose
As Analytics Engineer, you will join the Data Platform team to support the development of Samsara’s Industrial AI Platform, collaborating with science, engineering, and computation teams across experiment, process modelling, and production data. As an Analytics Engineer you will develop the ontology, schema design, transformation and data quality foundations that turn raw data into trusted, model-ready datasets.
Your focus will be building Samsara’s Unified Data Model – mapping core entities across Design, Bioengineering, Bioproduction, Technology Scale-up, Chemistry, Process Engineering, Analytics, and Operations – and delivering model-ready datasets to the Industrial AI Platform. Working from foundations in a fast-moving environment, leadership, comfort with uncertainty, adaptability, and iterative design will be essential.
Responsibilities
Ontology and Data Modelling
- Own the shared ontology and schema design for Samsara's core scientific and engineering entities.
- Iterate the ontology and data model as new verticals arise.
Data Quality and Transformation
- Develop data pipelines to transform raw data into usable datasets for science, engineering, and computation teams.
- Build and maintain data quality checks and validation pipelines for high-value scientific and engineering datasets.
- Ensure production-layer tables are reliable, clearly documented and queryable by scientists and technical stakeholders.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Spend time with scientists and engineers to understand the meaning, limitations, and context of data before modeling it.
- Lead a cross-functional group of data stewards across Design, Bioengineering, Bioproduction, Technology Scale-up, Chemistry, Process Engineering, Analytics, and Operations, to ensure alignment and collaboration with Data Platform.
- Communicate data definitions, assumptions and quality expectations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Help build a data-centric culture where teams understand why ontology, metadata, and quality standards matter.
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- Experience in analytics engineering, data modelling and data transformation within a scientific, engineering or technical environment.
- Strong SQL, dbt and analytics skills, paired with software best practices in Python.
- Demonstrated ability to design schemas, ontology, or data models that reflect real-world scientific or operational processes.
- Strong understanding of data quality, lineage, documentation and metadata standards.
- Ability to work closely with scientists, engineers, and ML teams to translate domain knowledge into trusted datasets.
Highly Valued
- Experience with Databricks/Snowflake, AWS, Apache Iceberg and lake-house architecture.
- Exposure to ELN, LIMS, laboratory instrumentation data, physics-simulation data, production line data, or process engineering datasets.
- Understanding FAIR data principles, ISA-88 or comparable scientific and manufacturing data standards.
- Background in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, manufacturing or climate tech.
Culture and Values Alignment
- Demonstrates strong alignment with Samsara Eco's mission and values – this work is for the planet, not just for the platform.
- Approaches problems with intellectual rigour and low ego – able to work in detail and take on any task without hesitation.
- Builds relationships across scientific, engineering, and commercial teams with warmth and credibility.
- Moves with purpose – understands the urgency of the mission and acts accordingly.
WHY WORK WITH US...
- Real Impact - Your work directly helps repair the planet. This isn't a desk job; it's a mission.
- Great People - Work alongside scientists, engineers, and innovators who are genuinely passionate about what they do.
- Own Your Work - Flat structure, real autonomy. We trust you to lead and make decisions.
- Work-Life Balance - Flexible arrangements, competitive pay, and benefits that actually support your life outside work.
- Bold Culture - We back big ideas, challenge the norm, and move fast. If you want to shape something meaningful, this is the place.
