About the Role
Australian Food & Fibre is seeking an Almond Irrigation Leading Hand to join our team at Kooba Station, located near Griffith, NSW. This full-time role supports the day-to-day irrigation operations of our almond orchard, ensuring irrigation systems and infrastructure are operating safely, efficiently and in line with production requirements. Due to continued growth across almond operations, we are expanding our orchard team to support increasing production and operational requirements.
Working closely with the Irrigation Manager, you will assist with irrigation scheduling, system maintenance, operational monitoring and supervision of irrigation activities across the orchard.
Key responsibilities include:
Monitoring and managing irrigation schedules and system operations.
Supporting irrigation maintenance activities and troubleshooting operational issues.
Assisting with irrigation and fertiliser scheduling and application programs.
Operating and monitoring pumps, PLCs, irrigation controllers and associated systems.
Supervising and supporting irrigation team members in daily operations.
Assisting with irrigation data collection and reporting to support orchard performance.
Maintaining compliance with WHS, environmental and sustainability requirements.
Reporting hazards, incidents and operational issues in a timely manner.
Skills and Experiences:
About You
You are a reliable and hands-on agricultural professional who enjoys working in a team-focused environment and takes pride in maintaining efficient irrigation operations. You’re organised, safety-focused and capable of leading by example in a busy orchard environment.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
Experience working in a large-scale orchard, irrigation or mixed-farming operations.
Knowledge of irrigation systems, scheduling and maintenance.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
The ability to supervise and support team members effectively.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
A current Australian driver’s licence and forklift licence.
Beneficial experience includes:
ChemCert accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
An HR truck licence.
Experience with orchard equipment and basic mechanical maintenance.
Tertiary qualifications in Agronomy, Horticulture or a related agricultural discipline.
