Primary objective
Work collaboratively with the Senior Health Promotion Project Officer and key stakeholders to plan, implement and evaluate
evidence-based health promotion initiatives that increase participation in the Northern Territory breast, bowel and cervical
cancer screening programs, in accordance with national policies and population screening principles.
Context statement
Cancer Screening Services delivers population-based breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening programs across the
Northern Territory. The position supports culturally appropriate health promotion, stakeholder engagement and community
education to improve equitable screening participation, particularly for priority populations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Apply best practice health promotion to conduct needs analysis, develop, implement and evaluate health promotion
strategies to encourage participation throughout the NT in Breast, Cervical and Bowel Screening Programs.
2. Foster, educate and maintain partnerships and strategic alliances with key internal and external stakeholders.
3. Participate in training and education to ensure current knowledge about the program is available in the community.
4. Develop appropriate resources to assist community education.
5. Contribute to policy and program development and facilitate continuous improvement activities.
6. Undertake cost effective health promotion strategies.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant skills and significant experience in planning, implementing and evaluating evidence based health promotion
strategies and programs including culturally appropriate education for Aboriginal women.
2. Demonstrated interpersonal skills including; community consultation/liaison, written and verbal communication skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and effectively as a team member of a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Knowledge and understanding of population health screening policies and women’s and men’s health.
5. An understanding of the cross-cultural environment, especially Aboriginal culture and including an ability to communicate
and interact sensitively and effectively with people whose first language is not English.
6. Understand principles of adult education, public speaking, training and working with the media.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion/ health related or equivalent qualification
2. Certificate IV in Health Promotion and/or Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training
