Victoria | Full Time | Southbank Head Office Base | Company Vehicle Provided
At Only About Children, we believe every child deserves a safe, inspiring and well-maintained environment to learn, grow and thrive. We're looking for a hands-on, proactive and positive Facilities & Maintenance Officer to join our Property team, supporting our network of campuses across Victoria.
Based from our Southbank Head Office and working across our Victorian campuses, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality work, and understands the importance of being a friendly, respectful and professional presence in environments where children, families and educators are at the centre of everything we do.
About the Role
Reporting to the State Property Manager, you'll be responsible for delivering a broad range of maintenance, repair and improvement works across our campuses. This is a highly autonomous role suited to someone who enjoys being out on the road, solving problems, supporting teams and keeping our early learning environments safe, compliant and looking their best.
No two days will look the same. You may be responding to maintenance tickets, completing painting or carpentry work, repairing gates, locks or fixtures, supporting landscaping and outdoor upkeep, or assisting with minor capital works and improvement projects.
Just as importantly, you'll be working in active early learning campuses where children are learning, playing and exploring. We're looking for someone who brings a calm, positive and approachable energy to each campus, communicates well with educators and leaders, and is comfortable working thoughtfully and safely around children and busy campus teams.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance across our Victorian campuses.
- Responding to maintenance requests through our ticketing system and prioritising work based on urgency and campus needs.
- Completing painting, carpentry, minor building repairs and general handyman tasks.
- Maintaining outdoor areas, including gardening, mowing, pruning, weeding, landscaping and general grounds upkeep.
- Conducting routine property inspections and identifying maintenance or safety issues.
- Coordinating and supporting external contractors and trades where required.
- Assisting with minor capital works and campus improvement projects.
- Building positive relationships with Campus Directors, educators, support teams, suppliers and contractors.
- Maintaining high standards of safety, quality, presentation and professionalism across every site you visit.
About You
You're a practical, solutions-focused maintenance professional who enjoys variety, autonomy and helping others. You take pride in doing a job properly, but you also understand that how you show up matters.
You'll be someone who is approachable, respectful and positive, with the ability to work confidently around children, educators and campus teams. You communicate clearly, take feedback well, and enjoy being part of a supportive team that looks after one another.
You will bring:
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, handyman or trade-related roles.
- Strong all-round maintenance skills, with carpentry experience highly regarded.
- The ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and make practical decisions.
- A positive, professional and respectful approach when working with children, families and campus teams.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence using phones, apps, photos and maintenance ticketing systems.
- A solution-focused mindset and willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
- A current Australian Driver Licence.
Why Join Only About Children?
- Fully maintained company vehicle.
- Phone, fuel card and tolls provided.
- Monday to Friday role, generally 7:00am to 3:00pm, with flexibility.
- Supportive leadership and mentorship from an experienced Property team.
- Genuine opportunity to develop into more senior property roles.
- Join a collaborative, long-tenured team with a strong culture of support, recognition and teamwork.
- Make a meaningful contribution by helping create safe, welcoming and engaging environments for children every day.
