About the Role
Reporting to the senior leadership team, you'll provide both strategic and operational leadership across a broad portfolio including:
Surgical inpatient services
Orthopaedic and General Surgery
Surgical outpatient services
Elective surgery coordination and waitlist oversight
Specialist nursing services
Partnering and working collaboratively with the executive, medical and multidisciplinary teams, you'll ensure exceptional patient outcomes while delivering safe, efficient and sustainable services aligned with Hunter New England Health's strategic direction.
What You'll Be Doing
You will:
Lead operational planning and service delivery across Surgical Services
Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure outstanding clinical governance, patient safety and quality outcomes
Oversee workforce planning, financial performance and resource management
Build and mentor high-performing multidisciplinary teams including orthopaedics, general surgical, speciality nurses and outpatient teams.
Partner with clinical leaders to improve patient flow, elective surgery performance and service outcomes
Influence the future direction of surgical services within a rapidly expanding facility.
About You
We're seeking a motivated, experienced and resilient nursing leader who brings:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant specialty area is desirable, and/or demonstrated relevant leadership or management experience
Proven leadership experience managing large clinical teams
Experience within surgical services, ideally including Orthopaedics or General Surgery
A strategic mindset with the ability to balance operational demands with long-term service planning
Demonstrated experience leading change and driving innovation
Strong clinical governance, quality improvement and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience managing budgets, workforce planning and service performance
Experience with elective surgery and surgical waitlist management is highly desirable.
