Lightning Ridge is a unique opal mining community located in the northwest of NSW 350km north of Dubbo. Lightning Ridge Central School has an enrolment of approximately 324 students. The student population is extremely diverse with 63% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and the remaining students with backgrounds from over 28 countries.

- Ability to embed Aboriginal programs and initiatives in collaboration with the community to enhance educational opportunities for all students in delivering effective literacy and numeracy outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and implement high-quality, inclusive K-12 curriculum programs that cater to diverse student needs, alongside fostering a safe and supportive school environment that promotes the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of all students.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2026.
