Primary objective
Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to the Mental Health Central Australia Region and ensure that all pharmacy
services provided are of the highest ethical and professional standards consistent with Departmental and Mental Health policies.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service and manage high quality medication management systems, including policies,
guidelines and protocols, for mental health services within Central Australia.
2. Lead continuous quality improvement activities, manage relevant audit schedules and apply the NSQHS Standards.
3. Initiate and manage projects, programs or investigations, and contribute to program evaluation and research.
4. Provide expert advice to assist with management of contracts with external providers, including reporting requirements, to
ensure contracted services are used in the most cost-effective way.
5. Provide coaching, training and supervisory support to staff, assist with performance management and peer review, and
undergo regular performance management for self.
6. Provide line management, training and supervisory support to pharmacy staff, including being a Pharmacy Resident Preceptor,
and undergo regular performance management and professional development for self.
7. Take an active role in the senior pharmacy management team at ASH, contribute to additional rosters as required and be
available for emergency duties after hours relating to responsibility of the position.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent in Pharmacy and registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. Extensive contemporary clinical pharmacy experience (preferably in mental health) and demonstrated ability to maintain
currency of clinical knowledge.
3. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, and ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Practical understanding and experience in the implementation of the NSQHS standards and the national accreditation scheme
for health service organisations.
5. Demonstrated experience in applying continuous quality improvement and managing change in the clinical environment.
6. Proven capacity to coordinate clinical pharmacy services and manage staff.
7. Extensive experience in the development of protocols, guidelines and policies, and provision of continuing education to
healthcare staff and patient groups.
8. Proficiency in using Information Technology in clinical settings.
9. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification or research experience in clinical pharmacy, education, research or safety and quality.
