The Business Unit Director - Respiratory is responsible for leading GSK Australia’s Respiratory Business Unit, including our innovative Respiratory and S pecialty B iologics portfolio s , with accountability for the strategic direction, commercial performance, people leadership , talent development and long-term growth of one of the organization's most important portfolios. The role shapes and executes the business strategy, delivers revenue growth, leads a large cross functional organization, and ensures the business is positioned for continued competitive success in a complex and evolving market and through product lifecycle s .
A s a senior leader and member of the Australian Leadership Team , the role requires the ability to inspire and drive performance across the enterprise , navigate a highly matrixed environment, make disciplined resource and investment decisions, and build organizational capability for the future.
P&L and Portfolio Leadership – Own the P&L and lead the commercial performance of the Respiratory Business Unit, with accountability for revenue, profitability, and competitive performance across the portfolio.
Strategy & Execution – Set the strategic direction across the Respiratory portfolio in Australia , translating enterprise priorities into clear , competitive execution plans through effective prioritization , investment and resourcing decisions relevant for each product lifecycle - launch, growth, and optimization .
People & Culture – Inspire a large direct sales and market team along with critical cross functional partners to sustain a high-performance culture, strong leadership capability, and a deep and diverse talent pipeline.
Matrix & Stakeholder Leadership – Lead through complexity across a matrixed environment, influencing senior stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, Market Access, Finance, and other functions both within Australia and the global organization .
Resource & Investment Optimization – Make disciplined resource and investment decisions to optimize return, accelerate growth, and ensure efficient deployment of budget and people resources (including significant revenue and operating budget accountability).
Capability Building & Transformation – Drive organizational capability and transformation, ensuring the business unit evolves to meet changing customer, market, and portfolio needs and is ready for future pipeline opportunities.
Enterprise Leadership – Represent the Respiratory Business Unit as a key member of the Australian Executive Team, contributing to enterprise strategy, broader business priorities, and overall organizational performance.
Governance, Ethics & Compliance – Ensure the highest standards of governance, ethics, compliance, and values-based leadership across all business activities, consistently role-modelling GSK’s expectations.
Required qualifications & experience
Leadership experience: Significant senior commercial leadership experience, including second-line sales leadership and senior marketing leadership, with a strong track record of delivering sustained business performance through others and across large teams.
Commercial & marketing experience: Deep commercial and strategic marketing experience, ideally within Respiratory or other complex specialty portfolios, including success in brand growth, launch execution, and business turnaround environments.
Functional breadth: Strong expertise across sales, marketing, portfolio strategy, and global-to-local execution in highly regulated, competitive markets.
Knowledge, skills & competencies
Senior commercial experience with strong product, customer, and market acumen, including understanding of respiratory disease areas, patient pathways, and access dynamics.
Advanced business and financial acumen, with strong capability in negotiation, decision-making, and strategic judgement.
Consistently models and reinforces GSK values, ethics, and compliance expectations, creating a culture of high performance, accountability, and integrity.
