Your role:
The LGBTIQA+ Family Therapist role works across the Mallee region. Part time 3 days per week 0.6 FTE.
Lived experience, a strong understanding of the LGBTIQA+ community and/or previous experience in this field will be crucial to the success of this role. The LGBTIQA+ Family Practitioner will provide counselling to LGBTIQA+ people and their families / support networks, as well as secondary consultation to other relevant community-based services across the state.
The key outcomes sought are:
- improving the safety, security and mental health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ people.
- improving family relationships, community connections, cohesion, and support.
- working with other service providers to ensure there is an integrated provision of services and equity of access to services.
- Building LGBTIQA+ awareness and capacity within Anglicare Victoria and the local community.
Make Your Mark:
- Bring learning from your degree, such as social work, psychology, counselling or psychotherapy or accredited qualification in family therapy.
- Experience working within the child protection, placement and support services and/or family service systems with demonstrated understanding of the relevant legislative and policy frameworks.
- Experience in the application of evidence based theoretical frameworks in both short- and medium-term counselling interventions.
- An understanding of the issues facing the LGBTIQA+ community and the commitment to facilitating and advancing the wellbeing, understanding and acceptance of people from LGBTIQA+ communities in a respectful and positive manner.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in providing leadership and mentoring to staff supporting complex and high-risk families.
- Advanced skills in clinical assessment, including risk, case formulation and care planning.
- Deliver quality, evidence based, therapeutic counselling and/or family therapy to members of the LGBTIQA+ communities, and their families/carers that promotes health and wellbeing and responds to the needs of the LGBTIQA+ individuals and their families.
- Strong focus on developing a positive, high performing and engaged team environment.

- Flexible through the increments up to 5.3 (dependent upon experience).
- Position based in the Mallee region Mildura or Swan Hill, with flexibility to travel as needed.
