- Newly created, autonomous role working directly with the Managing Director
- Projects ranging from warehouses hotels, bespoke homes and multi-stories
- Adelaide CBD office or Dry Creek location
Not every drawing needs to be exciting
Some projects need practical, efficient plans that make a warehouse or storage facility work.
Others begin with a blank page and may become a bespoke home, hotel, major residential development or 20-storey apartment building.
The Jurkovic Group is looking for someone who can do both.
This is a newly created role for an experienced building design professional who can turn ideas into contemporary, buildable and commercially viable designs—and then help move them through the approval process.
You will work directly with the Managing Director in a standalone internal design role. You will have considerable autonomy, access to a diverse and long-term project pipeline, and the opportunity to influence projects from their earliest stage.
The role
You will be responsible for progressing projects from early concept and feasibility through to detailed documentation, consultant coordination and approvals.
Your work will include:
- Preparing concept designs, layouts, models and detailed drawing packages.
- Developing ideas into practical, buildable and commercially sound designs.
- Working across industrial, commercial, residential, hospitality and multi-storey developments.
- Preparing and coordinating planning, development and building approval documentation.
- Liaising with councils, certifiers, consultants and relevant approval authorities.
- Coordinating engineers, surveyors, planners and specialist designers.
- Preparing or coordinating demolition plans, landscaping information, waste management plans and recycling requirements.
- Responding to requests for further information and keeping applications moving.
- Considering cost, yield, staging, buildability and commercial return during the design process.
- Managing multiple projects, priorities and drawing revisions.
- Identifying issues early and taking ownership of their resolution.
Projects may be located in South Australia or interstate. The role is based in the Adelaide CBD and does not ordinarily require interstate travel.
Who we are looking for
You may currently be working as a:
- Senior Building Designer.
- Senior Architectural Draftsperson.
- Architectural Technician.
- Architectural Graduate with substantial practical experience.
- Registered Architect seeking a commercially focused in-house role.
Registration as an architect is welcome but is not essential.
More important is your ability to demonstrate:
- Strong building design and technical documentation capability.
- Experience navigating planning, development or building approvals.
- An understanding of construction, buildability and consultant coordination.
- Confidence using contemporary drafting, modelling and visualisation software.
- Commercial judgement—not simply design ability.
- The ability to work independently without waiting to be directed at every stage.
- Clear and confident written and spoken English.
- Strong organisation across multiple active projects.
- A personable and practical approach when dealing with councils, consultants and other stakeholders.
- Drive, curiosity and the desire to take on larger and more varied work.
Experience across every project type is not required. We are interested in candidates who have strong foundations, broad thinking and the ability to adapt.
The opportunity
This is not a narrow drafting position and it is not a traditional role within a large architectural studio.
You will work closely with the decision-maker, contribute at the earliest stage of a project and help shape how developments proceed.
The pipeline includes straightforward commercial requirements, bespoke design opportunities and major developments capable of progressing through many stages over a long period.
The successful person will have room to make the role their own.
Portfolio presentation You do not need to submit a portfolio with your initial application.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to prepare and present a portfolio demonstrating the range and quality of their work.
You should be prepared to explain:
- Your personal contribution to each project.
- Your design thinking.
- The commercial and buildability considerations.
- Your involvement in technical documentation and approvals.
- Any confidentiality limitations applying to the work presented.
