We’re the airline that dares to be different, bold, down-to-earth and built around giving our guests real choice. Safety is our backbone, service is our heartbeat, and our people are our superpower.
At Virgin Australia, we’re on a mission to be Australia’s most loved airline, for our people, our guests and our owners and we’re looking for passionate talent to help take us even higher.
We’re vibrant, authentic and unapologetically human. Here, you can bring your whole self, your Virgin Flair and your ambition to a team that champions individuality, innovation and a whole lot of heart. If you’re excited by meaningful work, real opportunities to grow, and a culture where you can genuinely make a difference, you’ll feel right at home with us.
What you’ll be doing
In our Customer team, we put people at the heart of everything we do. We’re here to create experiences that feel effortless, uplifting and authentically Virgin, blending genuine care with smart, simple solutions that make every journey better. We listen closely to our guests, stay connected to their needs and use those insights to shape products, services and moments that truly hit the mark.
As our Inflight Safety & Compliance Lead, you’ll play a critical role in helping us deliver a safe, compliant and trusted onboard experience. Sitting within Inflight Services and reporting to the Head of Inflight Services, you’ll coordinate safety, compliance and food safety activities across the operation, ensuring we continue to meet regulatory, operational and customer requirements.
You’ll be the go-to safety and standards partner supporting the introduction of new onboard products, menus and operational changes while ensuring risks are identified early and managed effectively. You’ll also work closely with our operational teams and supplier network, leading investigations, driving corrective actions and using data and insights to continuously strengthen the way we operate.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating investigations into operational and food safety incidents, customer illness reports, contamination concerns and supplier safety breaches.
- Monitoring supplier food safety performance, audit outcomes, non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Conducting risk assessments and supporting Change Management Plans in line with our Safety Management System.
- Reviewing onboard menu content, ingredient information and allergen declarations to ensure customer-facing information is accurate and compliant.
- Partnering with the Product Team on supplier due diligence, food safety requirements and regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
- Using Intelex and other safety and compliance data to identify trends, track actions and drive continuous improvement.
- Preparing reporting and insights for governance forums across safety, compliance, quality and food safety performance.
- Building strong relationships across Virgin Australia and with external suppliers to strengthen safety culture, accountability and operational resilience.
You’ll be great in this role if you:
You’re someone who can confidently navigate a fast-moving operational environment while keeping safety, compliance and attention to detail front and centre. You know how to investigate issues, bring stakeholders together and turn findings into practical actions that improve the operation.
- Proven experience in a safety or compliance leadership role, ideally within aviation, inflight or another highly regulated operational environment.
- Experience leading investigations, managing corrective actions and responding to complex or high-impact operational issues.
- A Certificate or Diploma in Aviation, Safety, Risk or Operational Management, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Formal qualifications or experience in safety systems and auditing.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence internal teams and external suppliers.
- Strong communication, investigation, documentation and reporting capability.
- A sound understanding of food safety principles, supplier quality assurance and incident management.
- Knowledge of aviation safety protocols, Safety Management Systems and operational compliance frameworks.
- A high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using Intelex or another safety/quality management system, along with facilitation, training delivery or data analysis capability, will be highly regarded.
