Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated ICT Systems Test Engineer (ANZSCO: 263213) to join our growing team in Adelaide on a full-time, permanent basis. In this role, you will be responsible for specifying, developing, and executing test plans and test scripts, producing test cases, conducting regression testing, and using automated test software applications to verify the behaviour, functionality, and integrity of the College's systems and digital platforms. This is a critical quality assurance role supporting the College's ongoing digital transformation and ensuring all systems, applications, and platforms perform to established operational and compliance standards.
You will work across the College's technology environment including student management systems, learning management systems, and enterprise platforms, collaborating closely with ICT, operations, and management teams to identify system faults, resolve performance issues, and maintain quality assurance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and conduct quality audit inspections of the College's systems, data, and documentation, and analyse findings to ensure ongoing compliance with technical and operational standards.
- Identify variations and potential high-risk areas within the College's ICT systems and processes, and recommend corrective action plans to address non-compliance and operational risk.
- Test, identify, and diagnose functionality errors and faults in systems and programming code within established testing protocols, guidelines, and quality standards to ensure all platforms perform to specification.
- Undertake troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of system problems and performance issues across the College's student management systems, learning management systems, and digital platforms.
- Develop, conduct, and provide technical guidance and training in application software and operational procedures to support staff capability and system adoption across the College.
- Communicate, educate, and liaise with staff, management, and technical teams to ensure awareness of and adherence to quality standards, testing procedures, and system compliance requirements.
- Perform reviews and assessments of the College's systems architecture and recommend current and future hardware and software strategies aligned with the College's operational and educational objectives.
- Analyse, evaluate, and diagnose technical problems relating to the installation, maintenance, repair, upgrade, configuration, and troubleshooting of software, hardware, databases, operating systems, and security systems.
- Create and review technical documentation including procedural and instructional guides, operational manuals, technical reports, system specifications, service catalogue definitions, and maintenance records.
- Monitor and report on system performance, service levels, test outcomes, and quality assurance findings through defect reports and related documentation in accordance with established College procedures.
- Manage and maintain ICT asset inventories including hardware and software asset tracking, licence management, and procurement records to support accurate and up-to-date asset management.
- Undertake network support activities including connectivity diagnosis and liaison with network and infrastructure teams to resolve issues affecting system and application performance.
- Manage user access controls, identity verification processes, and access management protocols across the College's systems to ensure security compliance and appropriate system access.
- Manage and administer database systems including performance monitoring, access controls, backup procedures, and data integrity checks to ensure reliable and secure data operations.
- Assess the feasibility of proposed technology changes and system upgrades, and provide recommendations to management on implementation approach, risk, and operational impact.
- Provide technical support to staff and students experiencing system or application issues, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication throughout the service experience.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Qualification and employment:
A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field. At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant full-time experience in ICT systems testing, quality assurance, or a closely related ICT support and testing role.
Required Skills and Attributes
- Demonstrated experience in specifying, developing, and executing test plans, test scripts, and test cases using automated test software and regression testing methodologies.
- Proficiency in quality assurance frameworks, software development lifecycles, and ICT compliance standards, with the ability to assess system behaviour and integrity against established specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical faults across software, databases, and ICT infrastructure.
- Experience in systems architecture reviews, ICT asset management, identity and access management, database administration, and service level monitoring.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation including procedural guides, test reports, defect documentation, and service definitions.
- Knowledge of network support principles and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues and liaise with infrastructure teams.
- Experience providing technical guidance, training, and support to staff, with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities.
- Ability to work flexible hours including occasional weekends where required.
- Must hold a valid driver's licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
