The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking two Operations Managers, SESG to provide a critical role within Security and Intelligence.
About the Business Unit
The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) provides security services and incident and emergency response to the correctional system. SESG is responsible for providing immediate and longer-term support through its diverse portfolios such as emergency and incident response, High Security Escort of prisoners, state-wide training services, barrier control, search and canine services and management of firearms.
About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day management of the SESG whilst ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed. This includes liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver dynamic security and response services to the correctional system.
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing a team of specialised custodial officers delivering a range of services state-wide. The Operations Manager has a key role in high-level development and management of the various SESG specialist portfolios and will drive continuous improvement.
The role also involves the coordination of information and services to the various areas within the Security and Intelligence Division and the ability to develop and implement new policies and procedures.
The Operations Manager will also be required to identify and address issues concerning operations and staff.
The Operations Manager will also undertake the responsibilities acting as the Senior Operations Manager of the SESG when required.
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and deliver on projects relating to assigned portfolios, including but not limited to portfolios such as Chemical Agents, Firearms, Emergency Management, Tasking and Coordination, Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS) and Canines.
- Lead the day-to-day operational needs of the SESG, including oversight of security, management of complex operational problems, operational compliance and implementation of policies, strategies, programs, and OHS.
- As part of the SESG leadership team, lead and contribute to business and strategic planning, management of stakeholder relationships, workforce development and continued improvement of service delivery.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Corrections approach to reducing re-offending.
- Experience in working at a senior level, including successfully managing teams, demonstrating leadership in collaborative environments, and working across teams and organisations to achieve outcomes.
- High level knowledge of current legislative requirements pertaining to a correctional environment.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software.
- An understanding of the SESG role, legislation relevant to SESG operations and the direction of the SESG.
Qualifications/requirements
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence.
- A qualification in Business Management/Human Resource related discipline and or commensurate experience to meet the key accountabilities relevant to this role is desirable.
