About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Teacher/Instructor to join our team at our Auburn campus on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will provide high-quality individual and small-group instrumental music tuition to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, specialising in the Bağlama (Saz) and Turkish folk music, with the ability to also teach guitar and other traditional and contemporary instruments.
The role includes preparing students for concerts, school performances and cultural events, and fostering technical proficiency, musical appreciation and a lifelong appreciation of music and Turkish cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individual and small-group instrumental music lessons to students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
- Teach Bağlama (Saz), guitar and other traditional and contemporary instruments.
- Plan and prepare engaging music lessons appropriate to students’ ages, abilities and skill levels.
- Develop students’ understanding of Turkish folk music, rhythm, musical notation and performance practice.
- Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, cultural events and school performances, and organise music ensembles.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and families.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, the Performing Arts faculty and school leadership to support the school’s music program.
- Promote student participation in the school’s instrumental music program.
- Maintain teaching resources and musical instruments.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development and school events.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor of Music Education, Music, Performing Arts or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience teaching instrumental music to children and adolescents.
- High level of proficiency in Bağlama performance and the ability to teach multiple instruments, including guitar.
- Strong knowledge of Turkish folk music traditions and repertoire.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of ages and abilities.
- Current NSW Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain one).
- Commitment to child safety and student wellbeing.
Desirable
- Fluency in both English and Turkish.
- At least 3 years’ teaching experience in an independent or bilingual school setting.
- Experience organising student performances and cultural events.
- Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and NESA requirements.
