About Us
We are a growing building surveying and development consultancy servicing residential and commercial projects throughout Victoria. Our diverse project portfolio includes Class 1 to Class 10 buildings within the scope of a Building Surveyor (Limited) registration, including residential dwellings, townhouses, commercial fit outs, warehouses, offices, community buildings, and mixed-use developments up to 3 storeys and 2,000m² floor area.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and proactive Building Surveyor (Limited) to join our team and assist in delivering high-quality building surveying services while contributing to the development of future building surveying professionals.
About the Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment and administration of building permit applications, statutory compliance reviews, mandatory inspections, and certification processes across a broad range of projects.
This position offers a balance of office-based, remote, and site-based work, providing flexibility while maintaining exposure to all aspects of private building surveying practice.
In addition to core surveying responsibilities, the successful applicant will assist in mentoring and supporting Cadet and Graduate Building Surveyors as they work towards VBA registration.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process building permit applications within the scope of a Building Surveyor (Limited) registration.
- Review architectural, structural, civil, energy rating, drainage, and consultant documentation for compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Issue building permits and statutory documentation in accordance with the Building Act and Building Regulations.
- Conduct mandatory inspections throughout various stages of construction.
- Prepare inspection reports and follow-up compliance documentation.
- Assist with the issue of Occupancy Permits and Certificates of Final Inspection where applicable.
- Provide advice to builders, architects, designers, developers, owners, and consultants regarding statutory requirements and compliance matters.
- Liaise with councils, referral authorities, service authorities, and industry stakeholders.
- Assess amendments, variations, and changes to approved documentation during construction.
- Maintain accurate project records and permit documentation.
- Stay up to date with legislative and regulatory changes affecting the building industry.
- Support and mentor Cadet and Graduate Building Surveyors by sharing practical knowledge and industry experience.
- Assist junior staff in developing skills in permit assessment, inspections, compliance reviews, and regulatory interpretation.
Essential Requirements
- Current registration as a Building Surveyor (Limited) with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).
- Experience assessing and administering building permits.
- Experience undertaking mandatory inspections and statutory compliance assessments.
- Strong understanding of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Code (NCC), and relevant Australian Standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and engineering documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
Desirable
- Experience within a private building surveying practice.
- Knowledge of planning permit conditions and authority approval processes.
- Experience mentoring graduate, assistant, or cadet building surveyors.
- Familiarity with electronic permit management systems.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
