Job Description
Some of your key duties will include:

Prioritise and carry out maintenance as requested to ensure the smooth running of hotel operations.

Plan and carry out preventive maintenance throughout the hotel to ensure standards are maintained for guest comfort.

Carry out general repairs and maintenance to the property, including painting, patching, surface preparation, and finishing works to maintain presentation standards across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.

Be aware of and comply with any state/federal legislative and company policy/compliance obligations that may relate to your department.

Support the testing of fire alarms, emergency lighting, and related systems on a routine basis as required by local Council and Fire Service.

Support and liaise with contractors within the hotel, ensuring their work meets company standards and manufacturer specifications.

Coordinate, action, and minimise energy and/or water usage and reduce waste costs.

Ensure the workshop is adequately stocked with materials, including painting supplies, and is kept neat and tidy.

Maintain and audit all workshop tools and equipment to ensure efficient operation of maintenance tasks.

Ensure external areas of the hotel are neat, tidy, and maintained in line with company brand standards.

Maintain gym equipment in safe working order according to manufacturer specifications.

Undertake aesthetic upkeep tasks, including touch-up painting and refurbishment projects, to enhance the overall guest experience.

Carry out any other requests from the Chief Engineer and/or their designate.
Qualifications
Skills, Personal Attributes, Experience and Qualifications Required:
2–5 years’ experience as a Handyperson or in a similar role is essential (hospitality environment preferred).

Proven hands-on experience in painting and decorating, including surface preparation, patching, sanding, touch-ups, color matching, and full repainting of guest rooms and public areas.

Additional experience in preventive maintenance, minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repairs is advantageous.
A relevant trade qualification is preferred.
Pool Operator certification is an advantage.
Must hold a current National Police Clearance (issued within the last 3 months).
Must hold a valid Working with Vulnerable Persons clearance (aged care and/or disability services).
Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Opera or similar PMS); BMS experience is highly regarded.
Physically fit and capable of performing a demanding role, including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and completing manual painting tasks.
Ability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
Strong attention to detail, particularly in maintaining high presentation standards through painting, finishing, and overall property upkeep.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality painting finishes that align with brand standards and guest expectations.
Service-oriented with a commitment to excellence in both maintenance and aesthetic presentation.
Strong mechanical aptitude with effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to identify surface defects and determine appropriate repair and paint solutions.
Confidence to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels.
Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, plan, and multitask effectively.
Demonstrated multicultural awareness and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism.
Exceptional silicone application skills, particularly in wet areas, are desirable.
Ability to think critically and “outside the box” to resolve maintenance and presentation issues efficiently.
Energetic, proactive, and adaptable with the ability to perform under pressure.
