Position Description

Position Title Junior School Classroom Teacher

Reporting Manager Deputy Principal Junior School

Role Purpose All teachers have the responsibility to support Danebank’s aspiration and
intent, upholding its core values and Christian foundation.

The classroom teacher is passionate about learning and deeply committed
to the wellbeing and growth of each student.

In partnership with the Head of Junior School and Danebank staff, the
classroom teacher collaborates, shares teaching practice and brings
innovative ideas to promote a culture of continuous improvement.

The classroom teacher delivers an inspiring and differentiated learning
program through high quality teaching in order to develop deep
understanding and develop students as reflective and powerful learners.
The teacher ensures professional compliance, supports policy and follows
school procedures and systems.

Every teacher is expected to embed the Danebank Approach to Learning
in their preparation and delivery of their lesson plans. Every teacher is
expected to be involved in the learning, student care, outdoor education
and co-curricular programs as these are pivotal to the holistic development
of each student.

Specific Duties and
Responsibilities

Actively support the Christian ethos of the school, modelling a Christian

example in all activities.

Teaching and Learning

Support students to learn how to learn, developing individuals as

self directed, reflective and powerful learners.

Sound understanding of the content and structure of the NESA

curriculum and contemporary learning.

Engage students in rich learning experiences and co-curricular

activities Years K-6, including planning and implementing coherent,
well-sequenced teaching and learning programs that engage
students and promote learning.

Provision of rigorous academic learning, supporting students to

achieve their personal best and pursue learning growth through a
differentiated approach and personalisation of learning.

Use the Danebank Learning Platform to implement best practice,

high quality teaching and learning strategies appropriate to the
learning of primary aged girls.

Purposely integrate literacy, numeracy and ICT into teaching and

learning programs.

Regularly monitor and assess student learning and growth and

analyse data to inform and improve teaching practice.

An ability to inspire and engage students and to develop in them a

love and appreciation of learning.

Ensure that positive and constructive feedback is provided to

students in a timely manner to improve the students'
understanding.

Collaborate with grade and stage partners and other subject

specialists to develop appropriate trans-disciplinary and/or
problem-based experiences to develop knowledge, skills, problem
solving and critical and creative thinking.

Maintain all administrative records to a high standard including

programmes and registers, attendance, wellbeing, NCCD,
assessment and reports.

Create inclusive, safe and supportive learning environments that

model Christian world views.

Professional Development

Share knowledge and resources, develop skills and ensure best

practice principles are applied across the Junior School and
Danebank’s professional learning community.

Actively seek appropriate and timely professional development.
Engage in the regular performance appraisal process and

professional development practices of the school.

Participate in accreditation processes.

Wellbeing

Adhere to a holistic approach to student learning, engaging with

the school’s Becoming Framework for student development.

Work in collaboration with Stage Coordinators, Assistant Heads of

Junior School and Head of Junior School to address student
management and behavioural issues.

Work collaboratively as part of the wellbeing team to deliver the

student wellbeing programs, refer students to counselling staff
where required and liaise with middle leaders as appropriate.

Establish rapport with students and provide ongoing

encouragement to support students’ emotional and social
wellbeing.

Maintain professional confidentiality on information about

students.

Provide the appropriate duty of care and supervision of students.

Communication and Engagement

Interpersonal skills appropriate to establishing and maintaining

effective and respectful relationships with students, staff and
parents.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers.
Plan and participate in excursions.
Respond to parent enquiries regarding curriculum and student

matters in a timely manner to ensure positive outcomes for
student learning.

Prepare meaningful feedback and reports regularly to students and

parents.

Being available to assist students out of class where needed, via

negotiation between teacher and students.

Attend chapel services in line with teaching timetable availability
Attend other School events (e.g.Music Showcases, Carol Services,

Information evening,) and maintain an active connection with the
broader community.

Any other duties as may be required by theHead of Junior School and the
Principal.

Key Competencies, Skills

and/ or Experience

A personal Christian faith and commitment, demonstrating a

commitment to Christian teaching practice.

Expertise and experience in teaching all student levels the K-6
Ability to deliver effective pedagogy in an innovative and engaging

manner.

Effective interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work

collaboratively with colleagues and parents.

Professional and personal integrity.
Flexible and open to change.
Proactive and innovative.
Technologically literate and experienced in the integration of

technology into every aspect of students’ learning.

Willingness to actively engage in co-curricular activities.
Commitment to personal and professional development.

Essential Qualifications Essential:

Relevant tertiary qualification in Primary Education.
Accredited with NESA.
Working with Children Check required.

Desirable:

Experience teaching K-6
