Food Production Operator
Please note: this is not a desk based role. The position involves machine operation, cleaning, forklift work and regular manual handling throughout the day. Employment Type
Casual position with consistent full time hours.
The successful applicant will initially be employed on a casual basis, with a view to permanent full time employment for the right person.
About Us
We are a Melbourne based dry food milling and blending business supplying ingredients to food manufacturers and other commercial customers.
We are seeking a reliable and hands on Food Production Operator to join our team. This role combines machine operation, production activities, warehouse duties, cleaning, documentation and quality focused work within a food manufacturing environment.
The position suits someone who enjoys a varied role, can work independently, takes pride in their work, and is comfortable taking responsibility for day to day production and warehouse activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate milling, sieving and blending equipment
- Set up machinery and prepare production runs
- Weigh, blend and process dry food ingredients
- Pack finished products into bags and containers
- Stack and palletise finished products
- Load and unload deliveries and collections using a forklift
- Move raw materials and finished goods throughout the warehouse
- Complete machinery clean downs between product runs
- Perform daily cleaning and housekeeping of production and warehouse areas
- Follow food safety, quality and workplace safety procedures
- Complete production records and job documentation
- Take photographs of deliveries, collections and completed work when required
- Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers and transport providers regarding deliveries and collections
- Assist with general warehouse and production duties as required
Skills and Experience
- Current forklift licence
- Experience in manufacturing, food production, warehouse operations or machine operation preferred
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability to learn production equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Reliable and organised
- Able to work independently and manage daily tasks
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using computers, email and mobile phones as part of daily work
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel would be an advantage
Food Safety and Quality
Experience working in a food manufacturing environment is highly regarded.
The successful applicant will be expected to work within established food safety and quality systems, including hygiene requirements, cleaning procedures, allergen controls, GMP requirements and HACCP based processes.
Experience working within HACCP and FSSC 22000 certified environments would be highly regarded.
Physical Requirements
This is an active and physically demanding role.
Applicants must be comfortable with:
- Regular lifting and handling of bags weighing between 10kg and 25kg
- Stacking products onto pallets
- Standing for extended periods
- Bending, reaching and manual handling throughout the day
- Wearing required PPE
- Working in a warehouse and manufacturing environment
Work Environment
- Dry food manufacturing and warehouse environment
- Exposure to food ingredients, dust and production equipment
- Combination of machine operation, cleaning, manual handling and occasional forklift operation
