Primary objective
Provide high level information management, quality assurance and coordination of correspondence, secretariat and
administrative support to the Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) division, with a focus on the operational management of
the Professional Teachers Association of the Northern Territory (PTANT) and member organisations to foster enhanced
capability of teachers and the provision of quality education across the Northern Territory (NT).
Context statement
TLS provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to schools to maximise outcomes for Territory children
and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic assessment, transition to
boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing government priorities,
offering expert advice to the Minister for Education and Training and the department’s senior executives. We enhance our
work by actively engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare and coordinate high quality correspondence including strategic plans, annual reports, position papers,
briefings and responses to whole-of-government reporting requirements with reference to established processes
and guidelines including adherence to the department’s style guide.
2. Undertake a range of marketing and communications activities to promote professional teaching practice and
specialised teacher associations, including managing media enquiries and maintaining websites.
3. Lead the operational management of the PTANT and attend committee meeting and events outside normal business
hours (approximately 6-8 time a year).
4. Manage the delivery of locally held professional learning conferences and events as well as the PTANT biennial Awards.
5. Seek clarification and provide advice to the Management Committee and member organisations to ensure legislative
and policy compliance, including budgets, revenue, and expenditure.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven secretariat experience including coordination, minute taking and following up actions for committees and
boards, and ability to provide advice on legislation, governance frameworks and acts.
2. Demonstrated experience leading the coordination and promotion of events.
3. Demonstrated finance and budget management experience including procurement and contract management.
4. Proven ability to establish productive partnerships with stakeholders and work effectively with people of diverse
cultures.
5. High-level interpersonal and communications skills with the demonstrated ability to write in an informed and
concise manner, adapting writing style to suit different communication channels and tailoring messages to targeted
audiences.
6. Sound project management skills, strategic outlook, lateral thinking, initiative and problem-solving skills.
7. Proven ability to work independently within a pressured and changing operational environment, including
proficiency in the use of databases and applications to monitor budgets and management of social media platforms.
