The Social Work Department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is currently recruiting a senior social worker to join the Kids Cancer Centre team of specialist oncology social workers. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced social worker to join this team of health professionals who are leaders in children's comprehensive cancer care. The social worker is well supported by the social work department with professional development opportunities, training, and clinical supervision, and debriefing and support in relation to the clinical responsibilities. The role includes provision of clinical supervision and leadership in quality initiatives and service development.
What you'll be doing
The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive and specialist social work service to children, young people and their families referred from the relevant clinical area. This includes psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, group work, psycho-education and advocacy. The social worker works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
The senior social work is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of education programs in the relevant specialty for both social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The social worker also provides a consultative role within their specialisation to key stakeholders.

- Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in health context.
- Substantial post graduate experience in social work practice with children and their families.
- A well-developed knowledge of the psycho-social challenges facing families in the relevant clinical area and a sound knowledge of relevant community resources and support services available to the children and families.
- Significant post graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling, group work.
- Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, professional education activities, service planning, and quality improvement activities.
- Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
- Capacity to share after hours and weekend on call duties – as required.
