The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time pharmacist to join our team as a Team Lead at the state-of-the-art Northern Beaches Hospital. You will oversee the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to the hospital, provide support and training to relevant pharmacists, and ensure that all pharmacy activities are completed to a high standard whilst supporting the quality use of medicines.
This role reports directly to the Deputy Director of Pharmacy (DDOP), and is offered on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to cover a period of parental leave.

About the Role
The Clinical Team Leader Pharmacist provides leadership, coordination and oversight of clinical pharmacy services within the
Critical Care or Medical stream, ensuring high-quality, safe and effective medication management aligned with organisational and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Clinical Leadership, Education and Operational Management
- Lead and coordinate clinical pharmacy services across allocated specialty areas (Critical Care or Medical)
- Provide advanced clinical pharmacy input to optimise patient outcomes
- Support prioritisation of workload and ensure continuity of service delivery
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of pharmacists
- Act as a senior point of contact within the specialty area
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes
- Support service improvement and quality initiatives across Pharmacy Services
- Contribute to rostering, workforce planning and service delivery across the department
- Support management of medication-related operational issues (e.g. shortages, recalls, supply issues)
- Provide supervision, mentoring and training to pharmacists, interns and technicians
- Contribute to clinical education programs, tutorials and orientation sessions
- Support development of staff capability and professional growth
Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) & Governance
- Support and lead QUM activities within the specialty stream
- Contribute to development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and clinical guidelines
- Participate in committee’s or working groups relevant to the specialty area (eg Cardiology working group) and medication governance initiatives
- Critical Care Lead: Manage Northern Beaches Hospital extensive smart drug pump library and the role out with SDPR (Single patient digital record) in November 2026.
- Critical Care Lead: Attend monthly Heart Failure Clinic, providing clinical recommendations and medication optimisation of Heart Failure outpatients.
About the Site
Northern Beaches Hospital is a 488-bed facility providing care within the Northern Sydney Local Health District.
The hospital has a 50-bed Emergency Department, 14 operating theatres, 2 cardiac catheter labs, 4 procedural rooms. It offers a broad range of services including surgical, critical care, and intensive care, as well as Maternity, Paediatric, Renal, Cancer Care, Mental Health, and Antimicrobial Stewardship services.
The Epic team at Northern Beaches is situated in the foyer of the hospital and has 39 full-time-equivalent staff. Our team is split between the dispensary and the wards with pharmacists providing a full clinical service to all inpatient wards of the hospital.
About You
We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- Registered as a practicing pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no conditions on scope of practice
- Demonstrated high level of clinical pharmacy experience and expertise, including advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience within a hospital pharmacy setting, including the ability to supervise and support staff
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously and maintain high standards of accuracy and accountability
- Demonstrated experience in Quality Use of Medicines (QUM), medication governance, or service improvement initiatives
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and education of self and others
- Ability to participate in weekend work and on-call roster requirements
