The Griffith Centre for Mental Health unifies the work of Griffith University mental health researchers by fostering innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration. Our mental health researchers contribute to some of Australia’s largest nationally funded research projects, including youth mental health, parenting and family interventions, and lived-experience initiatives
The MAIC Griffith University Road Safety Research Collaboration is a partnership between the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) and Griffith University, to advance road safety through cutting-edge research in traffic psychology and driver behaviour.
This collaboration focuses on critical areas where evidence can save lives: motorcycle safety, work-related driving, driving and decision making in adverse weather, and fleet operations - from heavy vehicles and rideshare to grey fleet and motorhome tourism. Using state-of-the-art facilities including driving simulators, biometric monitoring, and eye-tracking technology, we work alongside industry partners to translate research into practical safety solutions for Queensland's roads.
Job Description
As a Research Fellow, you will contribute to innovative traffic psychology and road safety research within the MAIC Griffith University Road Safety Research Collaboration. Working in a state-of-the-art laboratory, you will use technologies such as driving simulation, eye tracking and Hexoskin to support high-quality research outcomes and industry collaboration.
As a Research Fellow you will;

Conduct laboratory-based and industry-collaborative research that contributes to the objectives of the MAIC Griffith University Road Safety Research Collaboration.

Design and deliver qualitative and quantitative research projects, including experimental studies using driving simulation, eye tracking and physiological monitoring technologies.

Analyse research data and prepare high-quality publications, presentations, reports and milestone deliverables for academic and industry audiences.

Contribute to securing research funding and developing a strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

Support the supervision and mentoring of higher degree research candidates, Research Assistants and technical staff while ensuring compliance with research ethics, health and safety, and University policies.
This is a fixed term position until 31 December 2027, full time position primarily based at either Griffith University Gold Coast or Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site university you may be required to work across other locations.
Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1 range $91,705 - $107,420 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $107,295 - $125,682 per annum.
Qualifications
To be successful in the role, you will have:

A PhD or equivalent qualifications and/or work experience in psychology, traffic psychology, road safety, human factors, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in road safety research, including qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Strong research project management skills, with the ability to coordinate deliverables, timelines and stakeholder expectations.

High-level data analysis skills, including experience using relevant research and statistical software.

Knowledge of vehicles as a workplace and relevant road safety legislation, with a strong commitment to research ethics, health and safety, and professional conduct.
