Job Summary
The DevOps Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining automated software development, deployment, and infrastructure processes. The role bridges development and IT operations teams to improve system reliability, deployment speed, scalability, security, and overall application performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated software build, testing, and deployment.
- Manage and maintain cloud infrastructure using platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
- Manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Monitor system performance, availability, security, and resource utilisation.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, networking, and application issues.
- Implement automated monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident-management processes.
- Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, security teams, and other technical stakeholders.
- Improve application deployment processes and reduce operational risks.
- Manage source-code repositories and branching strategies using Git.
- Implement security and compliance controls throughout development and deployment environments.
- Maintain development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Develop scripts and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Support disaster recovery, backup, and business-continuity processes.
- Document infrastructure configurations, operational procedures, and technical standards.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum meetings, technical planning, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Systems Engineer, or similar technical role.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, automation, and system administration.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and networking concepts.
- Experience with Git and CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and cloud security.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and Jenkins.
- Knowledge of microservices and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices.
- Familiarity with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar tools.
- Experience with scripting using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Knowledge of Australian cybersecurity and data-protection requirements.
- Australian work rights or an appropriate Australian work visa.
