Position Summary
A Panel Beater repairs damaged vehicle body panels and structures, restoring vehicles to manufacturer specifications and safety standards. The role involves assessing damage, removing and replacing damaged components, straightening vehicle frames and panels, preparing surfaces for painting, and ensuring high-quality workmanship. Panel Beaters work with a variety of tools, equipment, and repair techniques while following workplace health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
· Repair damaged vehicle body panels made from metal, fibreglass, and plastic.
· Remove damaged parts, panels, trims, and upholstery to access repair areas.
· Straighten vehicle frames and components using mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
· Hammer out dents and reshape panels to original specifications.
· Cut, weld, and join replacement sections as required.
· Replace severely damaged panels with new or second‑hand parts.
· Fill, sand, grind, and prepare repaired surfaces for painting.
· Fit repaired or replacement panels and reinstall hardware such as locks, trims, and mouldings.
· Assist in restoration of custom, vintage, or specialty vehicles when required.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant workshop environment.
· Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Work collaboratively with painters, mechanics, and workshop staff to ensure timely job completion.
Requirements
Experience as a Panel Beater or Vehicle Body Repair Technician.
· Knowledge of vehicle body repair methods and industry standards.
· Ability to use panel repair, welding, and measuring equipment.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
· Ability to read repair orders and technical instructions.
· Good problem-solving and time-management skills.
· Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.
