As our restaurant continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our professional kitchen team and help maintain the authentic flavours and high culinary standards that our customers have come to expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, preparing and cooking a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos, grilled meats, seafood, traditional sauces, salsas, soups, salads, desserts and other Mexican specialties.
- Preparing, seasoning and cooking food in accordance with established recipes, restaurant standards and authentic Mexican cooking techniques.
- Monitoring food quality throughout all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.
- Assisting in menu planning, seasonal menu development and introducing new authentic Mexican dishes and specials.
- Supervising food preparation and cooking activities within the kitchen.
- Ensuring all meals are presented to a consistently high standard with appropriate portion control.
- Managing inventory, ordering food supplies and liaising with suppliers to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Inspecting food ingredients and finished products to ensure freshness, quality and compliance with food safety standards.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and food handling procedures.
- Training, supervising and mentoring kitchen staff where required.
- Assisting in rostering and coordinating kitchen operations during busy service periods.
- Working collaboratively with management and front-of-house staff to deliver outstanding customer service and efficient restaurant operations.
Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:
- Diploma of Hospitality Management or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience as a Chef is mandatory.
- Experience in authentic Mexican cuisine will be highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican cuisine, traditional cooking techniques, spices, sauces and authentic food presentation.
- Sound understanding of food safety regulations, kitchen operations, stock control and inventory management.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Reliable, motivated and passionate about producing high-quality food.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
