The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals across lunch and dinner services, ensuring food quality, consistency and presentation standards are maintained. You will work closely with the kitchen team to deliver efficient service, contribute to menu improvements, and support the smooth operation of the kitchen. This is a hands-on position requiring strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pub and hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present menu items in accordance with Postmans Tavern’s food standards
- Prepare and cook meals for lunch, dinner and functions as required
- Assist with menu planning, seasonal menu updates and daily specials
- Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, presentation and portion control
- Manage food preparation and cooking across assigned kitchen sections
- Follow recipes, cooking procedures and kitchen standards
- Monitor food supplies, assist with ordering and maintain appropriate stock levels
- Store food safely and ensure proper stock rotation to minimise wastage
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen environment
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service delivery
- Assist in training and supporting junior kitchen staff where required
Skills & Experience Required
· Minimum 1 year experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
· Experience preparing and cooking meals in a commercial hospitality setting
· Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
· Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
· Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods
· Good communication and teamwork skills
Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or Kitchen Management (or equivalent industry experience)
