Your New Role:
Kempsey Shire Council is seeking a motivated and reliable Sewer Process Operator to join our Sewer Process team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting public health and the environment by ensuring the safe, efficient operation of Council's sewer treatment systems while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of the beautiful Mid North Coast.
The role offers a diverse range of hands-on operational and maintenance responsibilities, providing the opportunity to work across multiple treatment facilities and technologies while contributing to the reliable delivery of essential wastewater services to the Kempsey Shire community.
As a Sewer Process Operator, you will:

Operate, monitor and maintain Council's sewer treatment plants and associated infrastructure.
- Monitor treatment processes to ensure compliance with EPA requirements, Council standards and operational procedures.
- Undertake routine inspections, testing and preventative maintenance of treatment facilities and equipment.
- Identify and respond to plant, equipment and network issues to maintain reliable sewer treatment services.
- Record and maintain accurate operational, maintenance and compliance data.
- Assist with fault finding, repairs and continuous improvement initiatives across sewer treatment operations.
- Work collaboratively with team members and other Council staff to achieve operational and service delivery objectives.
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety, environmental compliance and customer service.
- Contribute to the delivery of safe, sustainable and reliable wastewater services for the Kempsey Shire community.

About You:
You are a safety-focused, reliable and motivated individual who enjoys working both independently and as part of a supportive team. You have experience in sewer treatment operations or the broader water industry and take pride in delivering high-quality services that benefit the community and protect the environment.
You are confident using technology to monitor and record operational data, have strong problem-solving skills and can identify and respond to plant or process issues in a timely manner. You communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and customers and are committed to continuous improvement and maintaining compliance with environmental and workplace safety requirements.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

A current Class C Driver Licence.
-
A General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
-
A Treatment Plant Operator Certificate and Certificate II in Water Industry Operations, with progress towards obtaining Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (or equivalent relevant trade qualification).

Current Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunisations, or a willingness to obtain them.

Demonstrated experience in sewer treatment operations or the water industry.

Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to learn operational software such as ClearSCADA and other Council systems.
The following qualifications and licences will be highly regarded:

Medium or Heavy Rigid Driver Licence.

First Aid Certificate.

Confined Space, Working at Heights and Breathing Apparatus competencies.

Plant isolation, permit issuing and electrical safety competencies.

National Water Training Package qualifications and other relevant industry certifications.
This role participates in a rotating on-call roster and overtime roster, including weekends and public holidays, so flexibility and a commitment to providing essential services outside normal business hours is essential.
