Piano Teacher
(New Program Launch)
The Plucked String – Southbank, Melbourne
The Plucked String is launching a brand-new Piano & Keyboard Program, and we are seeking a passionate, entrepreneurial Piano Teacher to spearhead and grow this exciting new offering within our studio.
We are looking for a versatile educator with a strong background across Classical, Jazz, and Contemporary piano styles. As the pioneer of this program, you will have a unique opportunity to build a piano department from the ground up—shaping the curriculum, guiding students through classical technique and jazz harmony, and creating innovative opportunities for contemporary accompaniment and ensemble work.
We are an established, community-focused music studio with a strong student base across world and plucked string instruments. Our students range from young beginners to adult learners, and we are thrilled to expand our community to include piano.
About the Role
- Casual contractor position with room to grow as the program expands
- Ground-floor opportunity to build and shape a new department
- Flexible scheduling (weekdays and/or weekends)
- One-on-one private lessons with potential for future group classes and workshops
- Collaborative crossover opportunities with our existing string ensembles
- Teaching from our Southbank studio near the CBD
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Is excited to build and nurture a brand-new instrumental program
- Is confident teaching classical, jazz, and contemporary piano styles across various skill levels
- Has experience with sight-reading, classical repertoire, lead-sheet reading, and jazz improvisation
- Can engage children, teenagers, and adult learners
- Possesses strong communication, organization, and self-starter skills
- Holds relevant qualifications and/or professional experience
- Holds a Working With Children Check and Public Liability Insurance (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience launching new studio programs, initiatives, or workshop series
- Ability to teach music theory, ear training, or syllabus preparation (e.g., AMEB)
- Skills in arranging or composing for multi-instrument ensembles
- Mandarin-speaking ability highly regarded
