The opportunity

We're seeking an exceptional leader to join our Senior Leadership Team and drive how Council connects with its community, influences decision-makers and builds trust with stakeholders.
Reporting directly to the Director Corporate Services, this high-profile leadership role will shape Council's advocacy, communications, and engagement, working closely with Councillors, executive leaders, government representatives and the community to deliver outcomes that matter.
This is a rare opportunity to influence organisational strategy, strengthen community relationships and champion initiatives that help shape the future of Hobsons Bay.
You will lead a talented team responsible for advocacy, communications, and community engagement, ensuring Hobsons Bay's voice is clear, trusted and influential.
From advising on high-profile issues and managing media relations to leading community engagement initiatives and driving advocacy priorities, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing Council's reputation, building community and organisational wide confidence, and trust to secure positive outcomes for our municipality.
What you’ll lead
- Strategic communications, media relations and reputation management.
- Community engagement that places residents at the centre of decision-making.
- Advocacy initiatives that influence policy, attract investment and deliver lasting benefits for Hobsons Bay.
- Internal communications across the organisation to support a positive and transparent culture.
- A high-performing team of communications, engagement and advocacy professionals.
- Strategic advice to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Councillors on complex, sensitive and high-profile matters.
What you'll bring
- Significant senior leadership experience in communications, public affairs, community engagement, advocacy or a related field.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Political awareness and the ability to navigate complex, sensitive and dynamic environments.
- A track record of delivering strategic outcomes through collaboration, innovation and leadership.
- Experience working with government, community and industry stakeholders to drive meaningful change.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels.
