Primary objective
Responsible for the recruitment management and leadership of the team of Orderlies and to assist health professionals in the
provision of safe, effective and culturally appropriate patient care that is consistent with current industry standards and NT Health
strategic direction.
Context statement
The Orderly Supervisor provides leadership and operational management of the Orderly Service at Katherine Hospital. The role is
responsible for coordinating a team of Orderlies to deliver patient transport, equipment management, emergency response support
and other essential services that contribute to safe, effective and culturally responsive patient care. Working closely with
multidisciplinary teams, the Orderly Supervisor supports workforce development, service improvement and the efficient operation
of services across the Katherine Hospital.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Responsible for the recruitment, management and leadership of the team of Orderlies.
2. Provide supervision, education, training, orientation and workplace inductions to Orderlies.
3. Assist health professionals to deliver quality patient care.
4. Act as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and provide patient advocacy as required.
5. Participate in quality projects and adhere to National Quality and Safety Standards for Healthcare, maintaining accreditation
standards.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work
7. being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
9. Adhere to all NT Health and Katherine Hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience in team supervision and personnel management including conflict management.
2. Proven experience in the management and coordination of service development and delivery.
3. Ability to effectively organise and prioritise own workload with minimal supervision.
4. High level of interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to work both in teams and autonomously to achieve the
departments’ objectives.
5. Maintain high standard documentation and computer literacy.
6. Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to WHS.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
8. Hold a current Northern Territory light rigid drivers licence and senior first aid certificate.
Desirable
1. Competency and experience in basic orthopaedic casting.
2. Aggression management.
