It also plays a vital role in connecting the ACT Government with local veterans and their families.
We’re looking for passionate people who have a demonstrated commitment to advocating for veterans and their families, and who have a strong interest in issues affecting the veteran community in the ACT.
We encourage people from diverse backgrounds, experience and abilities to apply to ensure broad representation and strengthen the voice of our veteran community.

Chair, Deputy Chair and/or Member of the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council for Veterans and their Families (2027-2030)
Thank you for your interest in appointment as Chair, Deputy Chair or Member of the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council for Veterans and their Families (MACVF).
MACVF comprises community members with a material interest in issues affecting the veterans’ community in the Australian Capital Territory. For the purposes of the MACVF, a "veteran" is defined as all current and former Australian Defence Force personnel.
The "Veterans' Community" includes people with a direct link to defence service or a veteran. This could include widows, partners, former partners, children, parents, siblings and relatives of ex-servicemen and women, and should not exclude anyone with an evident link to or interest in matters associated with veterans’ welfare or wellbeing.
The MACVF is an advisory body that represents and consults the veteran community to provide advice on current issues and future priorities to the Minister for Seniors and Veterans. The MACVF can also make recommendations to the ACT Government, including suggesting policy or legislative changes and other actions to support veterans and their families. The MACVF Terms of Reference (ToR) can be found here.
Position Overview
We are seeking applications from people within the ACT veterans’ community to join the MACVF through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. Successful applicants will be appointed to the MACVF by the ACT Minister for Seniors and Veterans, following a merit-based selection process.
The MACVF will consist of a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 12 members, including a Chair and up to a maximum of 2 Deputy Chairs.
The ACT Government is seeking applications for the next MACVF Council term from 9 February 2027 to 8 February 2030.
The Chair, Deputy Chair, and Members will be drawn from the ACT veteran community, of which no less than half of the members will be current or ex-members of the Australian Defence Force.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from multicultural backgrounds, people with disability, younger and older people and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities are encouraged to apply. This is aligned with the ACT Government commitment to create an accessible and inclusive community where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience and perspectives can participate and thrive.
The MACVF will meet a minimum of 4 times and a maximum of 8 times a year, for approximately 2 hours per meeting. In addition, working group meetings may also be held as necessary.
Remuneration will be provided for meetings. Members are expected to actively and constructively participate in meeting discussions, community consultations and work projects; and maintain links with the community.
Additional information about the MACVF including roles and responsibilities of MACVF members can be found in the MACVF Terms of Reference.
