People First Bank is building something significant.
Following the merger of People’s Choice and Heritage Bank, we are bringing together our products, services and technology under one brand. This includes major transformation across core banking, digital platforms and cyber security capability, giving you the opportunity to contribute to work that is complex, high-impact and genuinely career-shaping.
We are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Specialist on a 12-month fixed term contract to work across key technology and transformation projects, providing cyber security assurance, advice and risk-based guidance. This is not a maintenance role or a narrow platform specialist position. It is an opportunity to influence how security is embedded into major programs of work, including large-scale migration and integration activity across modern, enterprise-grade technology platforms.
You will act as the cyber security representative across projects, helping project managers, delivery leads and technical teams understand cyber risk, regulatory obligations and practical security requirements. You will need enough technical depth to hold your ground, ask the right questions and challenge when needed, while also being able to translate complex cyber concepts into clear, practical advice for non-cyber stakeholders.
What you will be doing:
In this role, you will:
Provide cyber security advisory and assurance support across major technology and transformation projects.
Partner with project managers, delivery leads, technical teams and senior stakeholders to embed security into solution design and delivery.
Assess cyber risks, control requirements and security impacts across new and changing technology environments.
Translate cyber security requirements into clear, practical guidance that project teams can understand and apply.
Support secure design decisions, including alignment to cyber architecture, standards, policies and regulatory expectations.
Identify risks, control gaps and areas where security posture can be strengthened.
Balance commercial and delivery priorities with the need to protect customers, employees and the Bank.
Contribute to the maturity of People First Bank’s cyber capability during a significant period of merger, migration and transformation.
About you:
You are likely to come from a cyber security advisory, assurance, consulting, architecture, risk or project-facing cyber role. You may have worked in banking, defence, energy, utilities, government, consulting or another highly regulated environment.
You are not just a technical specialist. You are someone who can work across multiple projects, influence stakeholders and make security understandable without oversimplifying the risk. You are confident enough to challenge when required, but pragmatic enough to help teams find workable solutions.
You will bring:
Strong cyber security experience, with the ability to apply cyber principles across complex technology projects.
A strong risk management mindset and the ability to assess, explain and manage cyber risk in a practical way.
Experience working in, or consulting to, a regulated environment where security, governance, compliance and control obligations matter.
Demonstrated experience assessing IAM risks and designs, including SSO, MFA, RBAC, least privilege and identity lifecycle controls.
An in-depth understanding of obligations relevant to regulated organisations, ideally including APRA CPS 234, CPS 230, NIST or similar cyber and operational risk frameworks.
The ability to influence project outcomes without direct authority.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain cyber risks and requirements to project managers, business stakeholders and technical teams.
The confidence to hold your position on key cyber requirements while still working constructively to achieve delivery outcomes.
Experience supporting secure design decisions across projects, system changes or transformation activity.
Highly regarded:
Experience in financial services, banking, defence, energy, utilities, government or another highly regulated sector.
Experience working as a cyber security consultant, cyber advisor, cyber assurance specialist or project-facing cyber representative.
Exposure to core banking, large-scale migration, integration or transformation programs.
Experience with security architecture, control assurance, cloud security or hybrid technology environments.
Relevant cyber security qualifications or certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GSEC, cloud security or other domain-specific certifications.
