The Opportunity:
The Category Business Manager leads and develops a high-performing team while building strong cross-functional and internal stakeholder alignment to deliver shared business outcomes.
This role coaches and empowers team members, fosters collaboration across Sales, Marketing, and Finance, and uses compelling insights and clear communication to influence category strategies. By analysing trends, shopper behaviour, and untapped opportunities, the CBM creates long-term plans to grow category value and volume across key customers and channels, aligned to the business long-term goals.
Acting as a trusted advisor to both SPC Global’s customers, sales, RGM and marketing teams, the CBM delivers actionable insights and category thought leadership to shape retailer decisions, engagement and joint business planning.
They design and implement data-driven, customer-centric category plans, ensuring shelf, range, and space strategies are aligned to market needs.
The role also manages relationships with key data suppliers, such as Circana, Mintel, and Quantium, ensuring a forward-looking plan of priorities supports both marketing and sales growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead category reviews and Joint business planning sessions aligned to business priorities.

Translate insights into actionable initiatives (e.g. premiumisation, innovation pipeline, brand roles), to drive growth across Frequency, Penentration and/ or Spend (AWOP)

Ensure alignment between marketing, RGM and sales, on category priorities, through clear growth drivers and initiatives
-
Develop long-term category growth projections (5 years) for SPC & Competitors to support the long-term planning horizons

Partner with the SPC Global Sales to establish retailer alignment drive the category growth agenda by being the category management expert in customer planning activities.

Participate in Customer Ideation, JCP’s, JBP’s and other as applicable. Specifically ensure customer plans leverage agreed growth drivers and intiatives, and are underpinned by insight

Build an understanding of the retailer’s segmentation and strategy to ensure this influences thinking in SPC’s strategic category plans and recognized in the translation of customer plans

Support execution through planogram development and customer presentations

Build data-driven range, space, and merchandising recommendations.

Lead category analysis briefs for the business by leveraging external partners such as IRI and Quantium
-
Coordinate data management activities as required:

Weekly database segmentation
-
Annual audit of scan / shopper master data
-
Advise & Implement of new segmentation hierarchies
-
Manage tracking requirements of key business activities such as NPD, planograms, store trials and other category initiatives with the support of Circana, Quantium or similar service providers to SPC.

Lead market reporting requirements through key data suppliers
-
Set clear expectations and coach team members through regular 1:1s and feedback.

Develop individual development plans and encourage cross-functional exposure.

Promote a collaborative, agile, and accountable team culture

Partner with Sales, Marketing and RGM to ensure category initiatives are commercially sound and executable.

Lead cross-functional meetings to align on long-term Category growth plans, customer engagement preparation and share performance, with pro-active course correction.

The successful candidate will have:

Successful track record working in FMCG across Category, RGM and/ or Sales
