About the Role
Due to continued growth, Babcock is seeking a Commercial Specialist to join our Marine business at Garden Island, NSW, supporting the Amphibious Combat and Sealift (ACS) Capability Life Cycle Manager (CLCM) Program. As a trusted partner to the Royal Australian Navy, we deliver critical fleet asset management services that support the operational readiness of some of Australia's most important maritime capabilities.
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager – Marine, this role offers the opportunity to become a key commercial advisor within a high-profile Defence program. This is a broad and varied role where you'll be involved in all aspects of contract and commercial management, from supporting customer and supplier engagements and administering contract changes, through to managing governance, compliance and commercial records. You'll play an important role in ensuring contractual obligations are met, commercial risks are identified and mitigated, and program performance is delivered in line with customer expectations.
Success in this position will come from your ability to build strong relationships across the business, provide pragmatic commercial advice, and support the continuous improvement of the processes and systems that underpin program delivery. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, customers and subcontractors to manage contractual matters, support procurement activities, contribute to contract negotiations, and help drive commercial integrity across the program.
This opportunity is ideally suited to a commercially minded professional who enjoys working in a complex operational environment and is looking to further develop their career within Defence and maritime services.
To be successful, you will bring:
Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
Tertiary degree qualifications in Business, Commence, Law, Finance or equivalent working experience.
Relevant experience required in ASDEFCON contracts, subcontracts, procurement, supply chain, finance or program/project management, preferably in a Defence context and/ or large corporate environment.
Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality written communications, applying creativity, strong attention to detail, and accuracy to deliver complex business outcomes.
Solid understanding of legal principles and how they apply within a commercial or contractual environment.
Proven capability to manage workload independently, balance competing priorities, perform effectively under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
Experience handling confidential and sensitive information with a high level of discretion and professionalism.
