As we continue to grow, we are looking for passionate Disability Support Workers to join our team.
About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you will play an important role in supporting people living
with disability to maximise their independence, achieve their NDIS goals and actively
participate in their community.
No two days are the same. You will provide a combination of personal care, community
access, household support, skill development and capacity-building supports while working closely with participants, families and the wider multidisciplinary team.
We are seeking people who are reliable, compassionate, adaptable and committed to
delivering exceptional participant outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Participant Support
● Deliver high-quality, person-centred supports in accordance with individual support
plans and participant goals.
● Assist participants with activities of daily living, including showering, dressing,
grooming, toileting and personal hygiene.
● Assist with meal preparation, eating and nutritional support.
● Support participants with mobility, transfers and manual handling in accordance with
individual support plans and safe work practices.
● Provide specialised supports where appropriately trained, including gastrostomy
(PEG) feeding and other high-intensity supports.
● Administer or assist with medication in accordance with organisational policies,
procedures and training.
● Support participants to attend medical, therapy, Centrelink and other appointments.
● Provide transport and community access supports where required.
● Encourage participants to develop life skills, independence and confidence.
● Promote participant choice, dignity, inclusion and self-determination.
Community Participation
● Support participants to access community activities, education, employment,
recreation and social opportunities.
● Encourage meaningful participation in community life based on each participant's
interests, preferences and goals.
● Assist participants to establish and maintain positive relationships with family, friends
and their broader community.
Household & Daily Living Supports
● Assist with shopping, banking and personal administration where appropriate.
● Perform light domestic duties including cleaning, laundry and maintaining a safe
home environment.
● Support participants with household routines while promoting independence
wherever possible.
Behaviour Support & Positive Outcomes
● Promote positive routines and person-centred approaches to support.
● Encourage positive behaviours and implement Behaviour Support Plans where
applicable.
● Respond appropriately to behaviours of concern using approved strategies and
organisational procedures.
● Maintain participant safety while respecting individual rights and dignity.
Documentation & Compliance
● Complete accurate shift notes, progress notes and incident reports using
organisational systems.
● Maintain accurate records including Brevity timekeeping and documentation
requirements.
● Report incidents, hazards and participant concerns promptly.
● Follow all Empowered Living Care policies, procedures and NDIS Practice
Standards.
● Maintain current knowledge of legislative, organisational and NDIS requirements.
● Ensure all mandatory certifications remain current.
Teamwork & Professionalism
● Work collaboratively with participants, families, allied health professionals, guardians
and other stakeholders.
● Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training and ongoing professional
development.
● Assist with the orientation and support of new team members when required.
● Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and ethical behaviour at all times.
● Promote the values and reputation of Empowered Living Care through positive
interactions with participants and stakeholders.
● Contribute to a positive, respectful and supportive team culture.
● Embrace continuous improvement and actively contribute ideas to improve
participant outcomes and service quality.
Essential Skills & Experience
● Previous experience supporting people living with disability, mental health, aged care
or community services.
● Understanding of person-centred practice and participant choice and control.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to build positive relationships with participants, families and colleagues.
● Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage
competing priorities.
● Reliable, compassionate and professional approach to supporting others.
● Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings, weekends,
sleepovers and public holidays where required.
Essential Requirements
● NDIS Worker Screening Check.
● Working with Children Check (where applicable).
● Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
● Current Australian Driver's Licence.
● Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
● Reliable, roadworthy vehicle.
● Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
● Commitment to the NDIS Code of Conduct.
● Relevant qualifications in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services or
equivalent experience.
● Current working rights within Australia.
Highly Regarded
● Experience working within Supported Independent Living (SIL).
● Experience supporting participants with complex physical disabilities.
● Experience supporting participants with behaviours of concern.
● Experience providing high-intensity supports including PEG feeding, epilepsy
management, bowel care or diabetes management.
● Manual handling experience including hoists, slide sheets and other assistive
equipment.
● Medication competency.
● Experience using electronic care management systems such as Brevity.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $87,000.00 per year
