Casual Chef (Afternoon & Evening Shifts)
Alpha Hotel Eastern Creek
Eastern Creek, Sydney NSW
CASUAL POSITION
Alpha Hotel Eastern Creek is looking for an energetic and reliable Line Chef to join our fast-paced kitchen team. Your shifts will primarily be focused around busy service times, mainly in the afternoons and evenings, though we may occasionally need you to jump in for morning service from time to time. If you are passionate about food and thrive in the rush of a busy kitchen, we want to hear from you!
Why join our team?
- We offer a dynamic, hands-on role requiring active participation during our peak service periods.
- You will experience varied service styles, focused heavily on executing service for Oak Bar & Grill (dinner), room service, and hotel functions/event catering, plus occasional breakfast service at Octane Café.
- We foster a positive, respectful, and disciplined team environment.
- We provide flexible hours, though availability for weekends, evenings, and peak trading periods is required.
About the role
Operating under the direction of our Head Chef and Sous Chef, you will be a core operational member of the kitchen team. Because you will mostly be joining us for service times, your main goal is to contribute directly to smooth service execution and guest satisfaction.
We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic who remains calm, focused, and efficient during busy service periods.
Primary duties include:
- Preparing, cooking, and presenting all menu items in line with standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Supporting smooth service flow by working collaboratively with other kitchen team members.
- Ensuring all dishes are produced and delivered within service timing expectations.
- Assisting with necessary pre-service preparation and thorough post-service cleaning procedures.
- Maintaining strict portion control, waste reduction, and correct stock rotation practices.
- Following all HACCP, food safety, and hygiene regulations to maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment.
What we are looking for:
- Availability: Must be primarily available for peak service times across afternoons and evenings, with the ability to occasionally cover morning service when needed. Flexibility to work across different sections of the kitchen, including weekends, is essential.
- Quality Focus: You must possess strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation, maintaining consistency in quality, taste, and temperature at all times.
- Teamwork: You need to be a strong team player with a cooperative attitude, communicating clearly with senior chefs and the Food & Beverage team during service.
- Professionalism: You must maintain a clean and professional chef uniform, following strict personal hygiene and grooming standards.
Skills and Experience:
- Qualification as a Chef or relevant kitchen experience is preferred.
- Experience in a hotel, restaurant, or high-volume kitchen environment.
- A solid understanding of HACCP food safety and WHS requirements.
- First Aid & CPR qualified.
- Physically capable of working in a fast-paced kitchen environment with a reliable and consistent work approach.
