About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality building compliance and regulatory services. Reporting to the Municipal Building Surveyor, you will provide expert technical guidance, support the Building Control team, and ensure enforcement, audit, permit and inspection activities are conducted in accordance with the Building Act 1993 and Council procedures.
As a subject matter expert, you will oversee proactive audits, permits, compliance investigations, inspections, enforcement activities and prosecution support, while contributing to continuous improvement of systems, processes and team capability.
A Little More About the Role
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of building compliance, enforcement, audit, permit and inspection functions, ensuring services are delivered in line with legislative requirements, Council standards and performance targets.
- Provide technical leadership and day-to-day support to Building Control Officers, overseeing work quality, workload distribution, investigations, approvals, audits and complex building matters.
- Manage and deliver key regulatory activities, including building investigations, enforcement actions, Occupancy Permits for Places of Public Entertainment (POPE), Temporary Occupancy Permits and major event-related building approvals.
- Drive continuous improvement through the development and implementation of audit programs, performance reporting, record management systems and best-practice processes that support effective service delivery.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers and external authorities, providing expert advice, fostering excellent customer service and contributing to the successful management of building emergencies and public safety matters.

- Qualifications in Building Surveying and registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor Unlimited.
- Experience in the appraisal of a variety of different buildings and structures.

- Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven written and oral communication skills, experience in drafting correspondence, analysing reports and making recommendations.
- Excellent networking skills and ability to foster collaborative working relationships.
